The Carson City Moose Lodge work team volunteered at the Sutro Tunnel property on August 7. The team spent the majority of the day making improvements to the structure referred to as the carriage house. The lodge members are working with the Friends of the Sultro Tunnel to support the restoration effort.

On August 2, the Carson City Elks Lodge #2177 was out in force to provide drug awareness goodie bags to kids and cooked 2,000 hotdogs, to help support our First Responders on Sheriff’s Night Out at Mills Park. Parents and their children had a fun time visiting the various booths of local businesses who also were out in support to our first responders.

Once every 75 to 76 years, those who peruse the heavens will have the opportunity to view the spectacle known as Halley’s Comet.

Don’t miss out on tacos, live music, boba, and much more starting at 5:30 p.m. Xquisite Awareness Nights at the Diamond Strong Freedom Center in Carson City are kicking off Tuesday, August 9.

Xquisite is a local nonprofit that is dedicated to bringing freedom and empowerment to sexually exploited women and survivors of sex trafficking, sexual assault, and domestic violence to live healthy, flourishing lives.

Meet Hemi. This lovable 4-year-old girl is available for adoption at Nevada Humane Society’s Carson City Shelter.

Jewels is a sweet, loving, beautiful girl who has been through the flames, risen from the ashes and is hoping for a loving forever home for the rest of her life. A long haired girl who loves to be brushed, she is a strong and healthy 12 years young. Since many cats live to be 20 or older, Jewels likely has some good years left to share with the right loving human companion.

As the new school year quickly approaches, Greater Nevada Credit Union has launched the Greater School Supplies Drive to support Nevada students, teachers and schools by gathering the supplies needed for a successful academic year.

Many students lack the necessary supplies to succeed in the classroom, and teachers often use personal funds to purchase them. The average K-12 teacher spends an average of $750 of their own money to supplement their classroom’s supplies, without reimbursement.

The excitement and pageantry of Hot August Nights is returning to Atlantis Casino Resort Spa with a full slate of classic car events, live entertainment and more scheduled Monday, August 1 through Saturday, August 6.

Carson City’s Newest K-8th Grade Christian School, 1600 Snyder Avenue, Building B is having an Open House this Sunday, July 24th from 1-3. Come join us for a BBQ lunch, outdoor games, face painting, dunk tank, raffle prizes, and meet Lewis the Legacy Lion! You will be able to see our campus, meet our staff, check out our curriculum, and find out about enrollment. School starts September 6th. We look forward to seeing you!

Last spring, the Dayton Area Community came together and raised over $70,000 in 30 days to build a playground for the new Dayton Clubhouse of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Mason Valley. We have great news!

Friends In Service Helping, also known as FISH, has been selected as a Target non-profit, where Target Circle members can earn and cast votes for a selection of local non-profits along with other perks.

While most people in Carson City are feeling the pressure of a skyrocketing housing market, more restrictive rental agreements, and interest rates pushing the potential for homeownership into the horizon, there is another, less talked about consequence: pet surrenders.

The Dayton Valley Lions Club will be offering free vision screening for children at the upcoming Dayton Valley Days, September 17-18, 2022. They will be located inside of the community center which is located at 170 Pike St. in historic downtown Dayton.

Giving locals the opportunity to purchase sustainably caught Alaskan sockeye salmon at a significant club discount. In return, non-profit Slow Food Lake Tahoe will receive 5 percent of all sales to help support the future of their community programs including the Food Bank Garden, which provides free education on high elevation edible gardens and growing organic produce for Sierra Community House’s hunger relief program.

On Monday evening, the Carson City Parks and Recreation Commission and Open Space Advisory Committee held a joint meeting to discuss proposed guidance and regulations for where and how dogs can recreate within the Carson City community.

SILVER CITY — An annual robotics, engineering mini-camp for boys and girls ages 8-14 and their parents takes place Tuesday, July 19 at 10am at the Silver City Schoolhouse at 385 High Street, Silver City.

On July 12, the Carson City Elks No. 2177 presented Friends In Service Helping, also known as FISH, with a check for $500, which acknowledges the positive work that FISH does in Carson City.

The Nevada Art Association’s Gallery inside the Brewery Arts Center will be closed through the weekend and potentially into early next week.

Dirk Roper, owner and CEO of Roper’s Heating and Air Conditioning, will deliver another 25 fans to the Carson City Senior Center as part of the KOLOCares 2022 Fan Drive to help Carson City seniors stay cool this summer.
