Carson City Moose Lodge Volunteers at Sutro Tunnel Project

The Carson City Moose Lodge work team volunteered at the Sutro Tunnel property on August 7. The team spent the majority of the day making improvements to the structure referred to as the carriage house. The lodge members are working with the Friends of the Sultro Tunnel to support the restoration effort.

Carson City Elks help support first responders

On August 2, the Carson City Elks Lodge #2177 was out in force to provide drug awareness goodie bags to kids and cooked 2,000 hotdogs, to help support our First Responders on Sheriff’s Night Out at Mills Park. Parents and their children had a fun time visiting the various booths of local businesses who also were out in support to our first responders.

Jewels is a sweet, loving, beautiful girl who has been through the flames, risen from the ashes and is hoping for a loving forever home for the rest of her life. A long haired girl who loves to be brushed, she is a strong and healthy 12 years young. Since many cats live to be 20 or older, Jewels likely has some good years left to share with the right loving human companion.

As the new school year quickly approaches, Greater Nevada Credit Union has launched the Greater School Supplies Drive to support Nevada students, teachers and schools by gathering the supplies needed for a successful academic year.

Many students lack the necessary supplies to succeed in the classroom, and teachers often use personal funds to purchase them. The average K-12 teacher spends an average of $750 of their own money to supplement their classroom’s supplies, without reimbursement.

Site Cleared for new Dayton Boys & Girls Club Playground

Last spring, the Dayton Area Community came together and raised over $70,000 in 30 days to build a playground for the new Dayton Clubhouse of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Mason Valley. We have great news!

The site work is beginning thanks to Rolling Rock Construction and Coons Construction.

New Salvation Army officers arrive at Carson City Corps

Salvation Army Captains Holly and Immanuel Beeson are used to starting fresh. In fact, all Salvation Army Officers are because their assignments typically change every few years — leaving them to pack up their lives and relocate to another Corps in another part of the country to continue the mission of The Salvation Army to meet human needs in the name of Jesus Christ without discrimination.

Truckee-Tahoe Salmon Buying Club returns, portion of sales goes to community programs

Giving locals the opportunity to purchase sustainably caught Alaskan sockeye salmon at a significant club discount. In return, non-profit Slow Food Lake Tahoe will receive 5 percent of all sales to help support the future of their community programs including the Food Bank Garden, which provides free education on high elevation edible gardens and growing organic produce for Sierra Community House’s hunger relief program.

Carson City Parks and Rec looks at leashing guidance, regulations for dogs in parks, trails, open space

On Monday evening, the Carson City Parks and Recreation Commission and Open Space Advisory Committee held a joint meeting to discuss proposed guidance and regulations for where and how dogs can recreate within the Carson City community.
