This year, the annual Sheriff’s Night Out — formerly National Night Out — will celebrate its 20th year in Carson City.

The event, this Tuesday, August 1, is a way for the community to interact not only with its sheriff’s department, but firefighters, paramedics, park rangers, the National Guard, and many more organizations who come together to provide a free, family-fun event to the community.

On July 29, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Mounted Posse will host a "Cowboy Challenge:" an obstacle course challenge and family fun day.

Nearly two dozen talented artists are getting ready to paint the town in Carson City this fall. The Carson City Mural and Music festival kicks off September 28th in locations across the city and runs through the 30th.

Members of the Rotary Club of Carson City, as well as the public, can learn more about the event at the next club meeting on Aug. 2.

Blush is around 6 years old and has been at the shelter since late May, and shelter staff don’t know how this sweet girl hasn’t been adopted yet.

The nonprofit Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties (HCC) is currently recruiting for part time and full time AmeriCorps members to help make a difference in rural Nevada communities by teaching financial literacy to children, teens and adults. AmeriCorps is a national program that connects individuals and organizations to help communities tackle challenges and improve lives and communities.

Andy and Cassi Selders, owners of Blue Pebbles, a family-owned business in South Lake Tahoe, California, donated 70 box fans to the Carson City Senior Center on Thursday.

On Saturday, July 29 the Messy Kids Art School in Carson City will be hosting its first ever Back-to-School Kickoff.

Kids and grown ups alike will enjoy local vendors including Lambchop and Schnooks, Lazy Littles Closet, Carson Valley Kids, CAAST-Learning Center, Feel Good Foods, and a back to school photo booth will be provided by the Art of Life Photography.

The FISH student housing project on North Carson Street is nearing competition. Members of the Rotary Club of Carson City will get an update on the project and learn about how the community can help at the next club meeting.

The public is invited to attend the meeting on Tuesday, July 25th, at noon in the Brewery Arts Center’s Grand Ballroom.

Thanks to the efforts of a small but extremely dedicated group of Catmandu volunteers as well as some amazing volunteers and donations from the community, the makeover at Catmandu is proceeding at a steady pace. We have made real progress and the place is looking great!

Feeding Pets of the Homeless, the first nonprofit organization dedicated to providing pet food and emergency veterinary care to the pets of individuals experiencing homelessness, celebrated its 15 year anniversary Thursday with a facility tour and ribbon cutting hosted by the Carson City Chamber of Commerce.

Here at Kids & Horses in Douglas County's Carson Valley, our volunteers are a valuable member of the Kids & Horses family. They give so much of their time, energy, and love to our horses and clients, and we could not be more grateful. Each of them have their unique stories of how they came to the ranch and what experiences have made an imprint on their hearts.

The annual East Fork Sheridan Volunteer Fire Station’s barbecue and concert is returning to Centerville Lane in Gardnerville on Saturday, August 12.

The Sheridan Station is a volunteer fire station, manned by a portion of more than 30 volunteer firefighters who are scattered throughout the East Fork district. The Sheridan station has been in operation by volunteers since the 1940s.

Members of the Rotary Club of Carson City will learn about the impact community radio stations have in their broadcast area. The public is invited to join the Rotarians at the club meeting tomorrow, Tuesday, when Steve Funk, KNVC’s General Manager, will talk with members about the station’s role in our community as well as the evolving landscape of media. KNVC airs on 95.1 FM in Carson City.

The renovations to the Carson city Senior Center are finally wrapping up. Sunday BINGO will be returning, starting on August 13, and the 2nd and 4th Sundays of each month going forward.

The Nature Conservancy's (TNC) River Fork Ranch Preserve is hosting the "Science and Nature Speaker Series" the 4th Thursday of every month beginning at 6 p.m.!

Experts from TNC and partner organizations will share their expertise on a variety of topics: water, birds, photography, native seeds and renewable energy.

On Friday, the Carson City Moose Lodge 2709 hosted their second annual wine train event in Mills Park from 4:30 to 7:00 p.m.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office hosted their two-day 20th annual motor officer training at Battle Born Harley Davidson on beginning Friday.

This training event allows motorcycle officers, civilians, and retired military members from Nevada, California, Arizona, Utah, Washington and some places in Canada, to come together, learn new techniques and learn new safety skills.
