Rotarians to learn about new FISH student dormitories as project nears completion, public invited
The FISH student housing project on North Carson Street is nearing competition. Members of the Rotary Club of Carson City will get an update on the project and learn about how the community can help at the next club meeting.
The public is invited to attend the meeting on Tuesday, July 25th, at noon in the Brewery Arts Center’s Grand Ballroom.
The housing is designed to provide a supportive and stable living environment for individuals and families while they focus on technical training. Participants will attend WNC and earn certifications in healthcare, construction management, information technology, advanced manufacturing, journeymen electrician, HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning), and CDL truck driving.
“Our new complex will revitalize Carson City with beautiful buildings, will revitalize the region’s work force with skilled labor, and will revitalize individual families who will move from minimum wage jobs to meaningful careers.” Peckham says. “Along with WNC we have partnered with the Circles Program to provide life skills training to the participants. Together we will help those who are tired of being in poverty.”
Peckham will also unveil a program that will allow local businesses and residents to get involved. “Those who want to help these students can sponsor an apartment. The sponsorship provides furniture and household goods, and the donor receive recognition on a plaque next to the individual apartments.”
