Fritsch student wins poster contest, recognized at Carson City School Board meeting

The Carson City School District took time at the May 23 school board meeting to recognize Brynlee Peters, a fifth grader at Fritsch Elementary School in Carson City, for her artwork and entry, which was selected out of hundreds of students statewide for the 2023 Free Fishing Day Poster contest offered by the Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW).

Happening Today: Robotics Showcase at Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center

Carson City Humane Society’s Pet of the Week: Pippa

If you’re looking for a sweet, fabulous feline, look no further than Pippa. This eight year old sweetheart has been in our shelter since early March. It’s about time she gets a happy and loving home!

Pippa loves to brushed and pampered. It’s how she keeps all of that beautiful tortie fur looking its best! Pippa is a big fan of treats and chasing ping pong balls. The best part of her day is when she gets to watch the world through the window.

Senior Spotlight: Pioneer Academy’s Tierney Frost has Passion for Art

With so many distractions these days, it is hard to slow down and take in all the wonders that surround us. This month’s Senior spotlight from Pioneer Academy, Tierney Frost, is hoping to one day make a career of capturing the world’s wonders on canvas or paper. Her love and passion for art has helped push her through some of the difficult times throughout her school career.

Carson City donates nearly 27K pounds of food during postal 'Stamp Out Hunger' food drive

The results are in for the annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive. The generosity of the Carson City community resulted in almost 27,000 pounds of food collected in one day.

Thank you to everyone who donated, the letter carriers who picked up the food and volunteers from Advocates to End Domestic Violence, FISH and the Ron Wood Family Center who helped to unload the donations from the mail trucks.

Carson City Rotarians, community to learn about Jack C. Davis Observatory during 20th year celebration

The Jack C. Davis Observatory on the Western Nevada College Campus is celebrating its 20th anniversary this month. Members of the Rotary Club of Carson City will hear about the Observatory’s role at the college and in the community at the club’s next meeting. Observatory Director and Professor Dr. Tom Herring will share the history as well as his thoughts on the future of the facility.

Today. Saturday, May 20, the Carson City Sheriff’s Office is hosting its annual Cops and Kids Open House event. The event is free for all and takes place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in front of the Carson City Sheriff’s Office.

This event is to honor those veterans that have given the ultimate sacrifice and are now departed.

Service Dogs and Your Business: Everything you need to know from the professionals held Wednesday May 24

What to do when a service dog is not a service dog and owner insists on bringing dog in the business? What rights do service dogs in training have in the state of Nevada? What about employee allergies or fear of dogs? How should we interact with service dog teams, and what are the differences between services dogs, therapy dogs and emotional support animals?

All of these questions and more will be answered when you join two professional service dog trainers, Kendall and Chandler Brown, as they discuss laws and regulations pertinent to service dogs, and how best to support your staff and our community when interacting with service dog teams.

Rotarians team up to beautify Lone Mountain Cemetery in Carson City with tree donation

The Lone Mountain Cemetery is getting greener with help from two local Rotary Clubs.

The Rotary Club of Carson City and the Cap City Passport Rotary Club teamed up with the Carson City Parks and Recreation Department on a beautification project at the cemetery.

A big Catmandu yard sale is happening this Friday, May 19 and Saturday, May 20 starting at 8 a.m. at 3831 Southpointe Dr in south Carson City off Silver Sage. The event is not at Catmandu but all proceeds benefit the kitties and Catmandu.

Carson City's Thursday Nite Cruisers are back for another season of car appreciation, warm weather, and summer vibes.

Each Thursday, join the cruisers throughout Carson City from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. for an evening of fun, which includes raffle drawings, a 50/50 at each show, as well as a Best of Show award selected by each hosting business.

Carson City Humane Society's Pet of the Week: Oso

Happy Wednesday Carson City, and easy hello to Oso!

Oso is a small dog with a big heart and lots of love to give still. He is 10 years old and is blind and deaf, with moderate dental disease. He’s afraid of strangers and other dogs at first, but once he feels safe, he really comes out of his shell. Oso loves it when people sit with him as he eats and loves plushy toys.

He has been in the shelter since late April and loves to play with other dogs his size.
