Reno artist’s work featured in Carson City at Nevada Legislature’s LXS Gallery

CARSON CITY, Nev. — Reno artist Lisa Kurt named her artwork display at the Nevada Legislature building “a subtle story.” In her acrylics and mixed media, she features people, animals and creatures in mysterious settings, incorporation nature and the unexpected. Containing traces of nostalgia and melancholy, her work focuses on themes of childhood, nature, stories, allegory and dreams.

Native art exhibit opens with reception at Carson City Visitors Bureau

Art exhibit 'From the Ground Up' opens at Carson City Courthouse

Artist Gil Martin talks with Jill Brugler during a reception for his “From the Ground Up” art exhibit at the Courthouse Gallery on Friday, Feb. 3. The exhibit, presented by the Capital City Arts Initiative, will be on display until May 24. Martin creates his own paint from natural earth pigments he digs up.

Art exhibits in Carson City set for Friday receptions

Art lovers will have two receptions to attend in Carson City on Friday evening. Gil Martin, who makes his own paint from natural earth pigments that he digs up from various sources in the western United States, will feature his work in the “From the Ground Up” exhibit presented by the Capital City Arts Initiative Friday through May 24 at the Courthouse Gallery.

The Capital City Arts Initiative is presenting an “ART from WNC” exhibition starting Wednesday, Feb. 1 at the Community Development Building — “The Brick” — 108 E Proctor Street in Carson City.

Twenty-one student artists from Western Nevada College are represented in the exhibit that is open to the public at no cost from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. Feb. 1 through March 30.

ART from WNC includes a cache of creativity, including graphic design, drawing, photography and book art pieces that show the diversity of the students’ imagination.

Visitors to Western Nevada College’s Main Gallery will see the product of transforming 100-year-old tree carving art into preserved art.

“Mountain Picassos: Basque Arborglyphs of the Great Basin” is part of the Nevada Touring Initiative’s Traveling Exhibition Program and will be on display at WNC’s Carson City campus from Monday, Feb. 13 through Friday, April 7.

It provides a rare opportunity to see some of the intimate personal images inscribed by Basque sheepherders in the aspen groves of the Great Basin during the first half of the 20th century.

Nevada artists’ works featured during Nevada Legislative session

The works of six Nevada artists will be featured at the Nevada Arts Council’s Legislative eXhibition Series (LXS) at the Nevada State Legislative Building in Carson City during the biennial session.
