Reno artist’s work featured in Carson City at Nevada Legislature’s LXS Gallery
CARSON CITY, Nev. — Reno artist Lisa Kurt named her artwork display at the Nevada Legislature building “a subtle story.” In her acrylics and mixed media, she features people, animals and creatures in mysterious settings, incorporation nature and the unexpected. Containing traces of nostalgia and melancholy, her work focuses on themes of childhood, nature, stories, allegory and dreams.
It’s available for the public to view from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Nevada Arts Council’s LXS Gallery, located across the hall from the Caucus Deli on the first floor of the Legislative Building, 401 S. Carson St., Carson City.
Kurt has lived in Reno since 2008. Originally from the Boston area, she earned a BFA in design and illustration from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design and an MS in Library and Information Science from Simmons College. Kurt served as faculty librarian at the University of Nevada, Reno, leaving to pursue her art and illustration career full time in 2013. She has taught at the Nevada Museum of Art and shown her work in Reno, New York City, Boston, San Francisco, San Diego, and Los Angeles. She recently illustrated the children’s book “Sarla in the Sky.” For more information or to purchase her work, visit http://www.lisakurt.com.
