Red carpet rolled out for film festival
An interior designer, Tricia Lincoln has a natural draw to the arts. The Fashion Film Festival on Friday piqued her interest, and gave her a reason to break out a new dress.
“I’ve had this dress for over a year,” she said. “I just cut the tags off it because I had an opportunity to wear it. It’s nice to have an opportunity to dress up in Carson City.”
Film-goers walked the red carpet, complete with a photographer, into the movie gallery set up inside the Nevada State Museum.
“All the planning paid off,” said Mark Salinas, the city’s arts and culture coordinator. “People are having a great time. We have artists here, business owners, art enthusiasts.”
Presented by the Carson City Visitors Bureau, the three-film series began Friday and continues each Friday through Feb. 17. Doors for each open at 6 p.m., at the museum, 600 N. Carson St., with the movie beginning at 6:30 p.m.
Jean Green and Sandi Edwards attended the event together.
“We like fashion,” Green said. “We both sew, and we like to go to these types of exhibits. We’ve got tickets for the show on the 17th, too.”
Edwards added, “It just sounded like a lot of fun.”
The film festival, designed to coincided with New York Fashion Week, was inspired by a lecture on underwear presented by Jan Loverin, the Curator of Clothing and Textiles at the Marjorie Russell Clothing and Textile Research Center, at the Nevada State Museum.
Salinas said he plans to organize more collaborative events in the future.
Stephen Lincoln, who attended with his wife, Tricia, encourages such endeavors.
“We want to help Mark in his efforts to get things like this going in Carson City,” he said. “This is a great event.”
