Harmonica and Strings Festival and Free Concert May 9
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Mon, 04/27/2015 - 5:53pmOn Saturday, May 9, Carson City Symphony's Strings in the Schools will present a Festival for Harmonicas and Strings at Empire Elementary School, 1260 Monte Rosa Drive, Carson City. The half-day event includes a workshop from 9:15 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for string players of all ages, a potluck lunch, and a public concert beginning at 3:00 p.m.
Spring Fling Concert April 23 at Carson City Community Center

The concert will include music by Vivaldi, Dvorak, Lennon & McCartney, and more. Admission is free.

Mayor Robert Crowell, representing the City of Carson City, and the Carson City Chamber of Commerce is collaborating to bring the United States Air Force Band of Washington D.C. to the Bob Boldrick Theater at the Community Center for a free concert on Wednesday evening March 4 at 7 p.m.
Giant guitar greets Lake Tahoe visitors at new Hard Rock casino in Stateline

Nor does one normally see a huge crane lifting a metal guitar over 100 feet to be placed onto a base in front of a South Shore casino.
Douglas High Graduate Terrence Martin and his team, Todd Schulze and Courtney Cardenas, were busy installing the guitar last week. Many people were passing by, stopping to ask the metal artist questions and taking photos of what will soon be the talk of the town and the subject of many photos.
Storms bring more than a foot of snow to Heavenly at Lake Tahoe

Return of cold weather, snow over weekend kicks off snowmaking at Heavenly resort
Submitted by editor on Mon, 10/27/2014 - 9:41amCold weather and 2 inches of new snow fell at Heavenly Mountain Resort at Lake Tahoe over the weekend, allowing for snow making machines to kick on for the season in anticipation of a Nov. 21 opening day, officials said Monday.
The snowmaking system, known as the west coast's largest, ran for seven hours night Sunday, blowing snow at the top of the Gondola, as well as on California Trail, Orion and Tamarack return.
Capital City Community Band celebrates the Sesquicentennial with a free concert

This year's concert will commemorate Nevada's sesquicentennial Celebration. The concert is FREE and open to the public. Parents are encouraged to bring their children to enjoy this concert.

Carson City Symphony presents Oct. 26 'A Nevada 150 Concert'

The concert includes the Carson City Symphony Chorus directed by Michael Langham, and featured guest artists McAvoy Layne as Mark Twain, poet Shaun Griffin, Native American singer Christina Thomas, and readers Rita Geil and Christina Van Geel. The program begins at 4 p.m.

The salute to America's military "past, present and future" is the theme of this year's statehood events. Featured at the park is the traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall, living history re-enactments, tributes and military honors and static displays. Go here for more information.

After the first half of the concert, harmonica player Tom Stryker will lead a harmonica workshop for youth attending the concert. Each will be given a harmonica and learn to play a tune. After intermission, they will perform on stage.
