Carson City Symphony presents 'Legends, Fairy Tales and Dances'
The Carson City Symphony, directed by David Bugli, will perform "Legends, Fairy Tales, and Dances" on Sunday, Feb. 24, 4 p.m., at the Carson City Community Center's Bob Boldrick Theater, 851 E. William Street in Carson City.
Guest soloist Eric Fassbender will perform the Concerto for Bassoon and Orchestra by Nino Rota, noted composer for movies. Symphony musician Yumiko Anthenien will be featured on English horn in the beautiful and haunting "The Swan of Tuonela" by Jean Sibelius. The orchestra will also perform Gioachino Rossini's "La Cenerentola (Cinderella)" Overture and three Slavonic Dances by Antonin Dvorak.
Tickets are $15 general admission; $12 for seniors, students, and Symphony Association members; and free for youth age 16 and under. Tickets are on sale at Play Your Own Music in the Carson Mall, online at CCSymphony.com, or at the door.
Pre-show entertainment by Symphony flutes and clarinets begins at 3:00 p.m. in the lobby. The audience is also invited to a free concert preview in the Sierra Room at 3:15 p.m. and a dinner reception after the concert.
The preview, hosted by Conductor David Bugli, will include discussions with the soloists about the music, composers, and instruments. Preview admission is free, no reservations required.
The post-concert reception will be at Beijing Palace restaurant, 4250 Cochise Street in Carson City. For reception reservations, required in advance, and price, call the Symphony at 775-883-4154.
Blood donors may receive a complimentary ticket to the concert. Donate at United Blood Services' Carson City Donor Center, Saturday, February 16, through Saturday, February 23. Call 775-887-9111 for Donor Center hours.
Carson City Symphony is a community orchestra of about 60 players who perform music from the 15th to 21st centuries. The 2012-13 concert season is funded, in part, by a grant from the Nevada Arts Council, a state agency, and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency. Pre-concert talks are funded in part by a grant from Nevada Humanities.
