Carson City's MJ's Sports Bar wins Battle of the Bars toy drive for Salvation Army

With an impressive 135 toys collected, MJ's Sports Bar in Carson City won the Battle of the Bars Toy Drive hosted by the Salvation Army. Crossroad's Lounge collected 79 new toys, placing second in the competition, with Ed's Doghouse collecting 63.

The bars have been collecting toys since late November. On Saturday Lt. Mark Cyr, Commanding Officer of the Salvation Army Serving Carson City and Douglas County along with several soldiers from The Salvation Army went out collecting the toys and congratulating the winners.

“This is very exciting and probably the most toys we have seen from the Battle of the Bars competition in its three year history,” said Cyr. “Which is crucial this year as the need has risen with more than 400 more kids coming to us for Christmas assistance this year than in the past few years and we are in need of all the support we can get this holiday season.”

The Salvation Army Serving Carson City and Douglas County will be providing Christmas gifts for more than 1,500 disadvantaged children. Angel Trees and Barrels are placed in area stores during the first part of November until Friday, Dec. 18. Community members purchase items for children and return the gifts to the store where the angel tree or barrels are located.

Donations can be made at The Salvation Army’s 661 Colorado St. location up through Dec. 24.

MJ’s Sports Bar is located at 3679 S. Carson St., Crossroad’s Lounge is located at 300 E. Winnie Lane and Ed’s Doghouse is at 3300 Airport Rd.

For more information about the Angel Tree program, contact Christie Contreras at (775) 887-9120 or visit the web page at carsoncitysalarmy.org. The Angel Tree and Toy Barrel locations are listed below.
