Man booked on open murder charge in Thursday's fatal Silver Springs shooting
A Silver Springs man has been arrested on a charge of open murder with a deadly weapon enhancement in last Thursday’s shooting death of a 48-year-old man in Silver Springs.
Santiago “Sonny” Fernandez, 45, of Silver Springs was arrested Monday in connection with the shooting death of Robert Buchanan III, also of Silver Springs. Fernandez is currently being held at the Lyon County Detention Center in Yerington.
The Oct. 13 crime happened at Nevada Avenue and Highway 95A in Silver Springs. When deputies arrived on scene they found Buchanan, who was pronounced deceased at the scene from the injuries, said Lyon County Sheriff Al McNeil.
According to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office and the Lyon County District Attorney’s Office, this deadly encounter is not the first act of violence between members of these two families. Law enforcement has investigated other cases involving violence or threats of violence between these two families.
