This calendar is updated throughout the day as information becomes available. Here’s what’s happening:
— Nevada Guard will host a memorial run and walk this Thursday, Sept. 6, to commemorate the victims of the International House of Pancakes shooting that occurred in 2011. The community is invited to participate. This is a non-competitive event.
The run walk will start at the Carson City IHOP, 3883 S. Carson St., at 7 a.m. Dozens of Soldiers and Airmen will traverse the 5-kilometer route from the restaurant to the Office of the Adjutant General complex at 2460 Fairview Drive in Carson City.
— Daily through September, Muscle Powered is holding a membership drive to recruit new members. All new and renewing members in the month of September will be entered in a drawing to win a Gregory Hiking Day Pack.
Muscle Powered works to make Carson City healthier for all citizens and safer and more accessible for bicycling and walking through education and advocacy, the promotion of bicycle and pedestrian friendly infrastructure, and developing and maintaining recreational trails throughout the city. Muscle Powered is also responsible for organized weekly walks, hikes and bike rides, on and off road, throughout Carson City. Go here to learn more and sign up.
— Thursday Hike to Marlette Lake (partial) hosted by Muscle Powered, 8 a.m. Come out and join us for free hikes each week to enjoy Nevada outdoors! Meet in the Highway 50 Park and Ride where we will carpool up to Spooner Lake. If you hold a Nevada State Parks permit, please bring it with you.
— Join Coffee Connections host Jenny Treece, 9 a.m., September 6, 2018, at Rustically Divine, 410 N. Carson St. in Carson City. Come mingle with other business professionals and people in the community to expand your network and your way of thinking. This week we will be brainstorming creative ways to market your business to the local community.
— Cardio and Strength Connection class offered at Carson Tahoe, 10 a.m. Classes are held at Carson Tahoe (1470 Medical Pkwy, Suite 250). If you've had problems with your heart, or have diabetes, a healthy lifestyle is the best way to get you feeling like you should. We've created Cardio & Strength Connection to help you develop a healthy exercise program in a safe and comfortable environment.
— A new Carson City group offers support, education to parents with children who have addictions. The support group is starting in Carson City for family members who have loved ones with addictions. The group will meet Thursday nights, 6:30 p.m. at the Carson City Fire Station 51 meeting room, 777 S Stewart St.
— Nevada Arts Council Presents: Mountain Picassos: Basque Arborglyphs of the Great Basin, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, OXS Gallery, 716 N. Carson St. Ste. A, Carson City. Basque tree carvings, or arborglyphs, have long been of interest to historians, Basque scholars, foresters and hikers. Carved by Basque sheepherders tending their flocks across the Great Basin, the carvings are at the crossroads where art, culture and nature come together.
The exhibit is based on the book of the same name by Reno’s Jean and Phillip Earl. The exhibit debuted July 30 and will remain in place through Sept. 7.
— The Capital City Arts Initiative, also known as CCAI, presents its exhibition, "Jenny Raven: The Creative Growth Years 1979 - 1984" with artwork by artist Jenny Raven in the city’s Community Center Sierra Room, 851 E William Street, Carson City. The exhibition is available to the public through October 18, 2018. The Sierra Room is open from 8 am - 5pm.
— Visual Oasis: Works from Creative Growth, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Capital City Arts Initiative presents “Visual Oasis: Works from Creative Growth" at the CCAI Courthouse Gallery in Carson City. The exhibition, with art by 17 artists, will be in the gallery Monday through Friday until Sept. 27, 2018.
The Courthouse is located at 885 E Musser Street, Carson City. The gallery is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
