The Carson City Symphony Association will present a free concert featuring Music of the Andes on Saturday, May 21, at 2:30 p.m., at Empire Elementary School, 1260 Monte Rosa Drive in Carson City. The concert features Kantu Inka - Carlos and Julie Ocampa - who have been presenting Peruvian Andean music in the U.S. since 2003.

The Capital City Arts Initiative (CCAI) announces its exhibition, "Photo Finished 2021", at the Community Development Building (the Brick), 108 E Proctor Street, Carson City through March 25, 2021.

Thirteen seniors from Carson High School’s Advanced Photography program have work in the exhibit which is available online at ccainv.org.

Carson City Symphony Association is pleased to announce the appointment of Richard “Ricky” Hutton as Director of Carson Chamber Singers. His connection with the Carson Chamber Singers goes back to the summer of 2019, when he directed the Singers in the June Pops Party concert in Carson City and the July 4th concert in Genoa.

CARSON CITY — Nevada artists who have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic may apply through Jan. 29, 2021, for a $1,000 grant to be used to alleviate financial pressures due to COVID-19. Properly completed applications for the Fiscal Year 2021 Artist Relief Grant program will be entered into a process for randomized selection. If application requests exceed funding available, the Nevada Arts Council will prioritize geographic diversity and underserved populations.

The Carson City Symphony Association presentation of “Joyful Noise — A Holiday Treat” concert is available for viewing on the Carson City Symphony channel on YouTube here and from Facebook.com/CarsonCitySymphony here. The concert features John and Cherie Shipley with their Joyful Noise Chorus and Band. They have been performing "Joyful Noise" concerts each December since 2002.

Carson City Symphony Association announces release of Project Euterpe Episode 11 featuring the Carson Chamber Singers, an affiliate of the Carson City Symphony, performing "Hodie Christus natus est," by Dutch composer, organist, and teacher Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck. Choral Director Richard "Ricky" Hutton leads the 27 singers and brass quintet.

Anyone who bought tickets ahead of time can get reimbursed or have the money donated to the Carson City Symphony Assoc. The Capital City Arts Initiative and Western Nevada College present "Metallum Terrae" an exhibition by Kyle Karrasch in the college’s Bristlecone Gallery, 2201 W College Parkway, Carson City now through Dec. 17, 2020. The gallery is open to the public, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The Capital City Arts Initiative presents its exhibition, "Relaunch", by artist Mark Brandvik at the CCAI Courthouse Gallery. The exhibition will be in the gallery from October 2, 2020 – January 28, 2021.

Recognizing the cultural and economic impact the arts community makes in the Silver State, Gov. Steve Sisolak has proclaimed October to be Arts and Humanities Month in Nevada.

Arts and humanities strengthen the Nevada economy by generating $8.7 billion in total economic activity annually and by supporting more than 40,900 Nevada workers, according to data from the Nevada Arts Council, a state agency that works to make the arts accessible to all Nevadans. The Mile High Jazz Band Association recently produced a video, "Virtual Jazz & Poetry: Running Out." The video contains six short acts, each consisting of the reading of a poem and the performance of a related piece of music.

The Capital City Arts Initiative presents its exhibition, "H2O 2020", with work by eight Great Basin artists at the CCAI Courthouse Gallery: Cyndy Brenneman, Vanessa Martinez, Nolan Preece, Nancy Raven, Craig Sheppard, Dylan Silver, Cathryne Trachok, and Candida Webb. The exhibition will be in the gallery through Sept. 24, 2020.

The Jazz & Beyond festival committee is rescheduling many of the events originally planned for August 2020 because of the recent rise in coronavirus cases. However, the committee plans to go ahead with the second annual Open Studios Tour from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, August 22, and Sunday, August 23. Admission is free.

Nevada Humanities is pleased to announce the awards for Nevada Humanities CARES: Emergency Relief Grants for Nevada Humanities and Cultural Organizations. Forty-six cultural and humanities organizations across Nevada received $368,873 in federal CARES Act grants.

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Arts Council has issued $392,250 in federal funds to 79 arts organizations through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act. Grant amounts ranged from $1,000 to $10,000, based on each group’s total annual revenue.

The Capital City Arts Initiative’s illustrated talk, Women Artists of the Great Basin, by Reno artist and author, Mary Lee Fulkerson, is now available online. The event is part of CCAI’s ongoing Nevada Neighbors speakers’ series; all future talks will be recorded and presented online.

The Jazz and Beyond festival committee announces that the winner of the 2020 poster and program cover art contest is Karen Kreyeski, for her entry, “After Midnight Jam.” The winner of the T-shirt design is Evan Tynan, for “2020 Jazz & Beyond Festival Logo.” These were selected from ten entries to highlight the 17th annual Carson City music and art festival.

As part of the ongoing Nevada Humanities Exhibition Series, a new exhibition, Colors of the West: Youth Art from the 2020 National Cowboy Poetry Gathering, opened online on June 4, 2020 at nevadahumanities.org and will be on display as a virtual gallery indefinitely.
