Inaugural Lake Tahoe crawfish festival set for Aug. 24
In the throes of a sun-drenched late Lake Tahoe summer day, MontBleu Resort Casino and Spa will bite the head, pinch the tail and build the body Aug. 24 in a daylong feast and flex protein fest for the eyes, abs and everything in between.
Louisiana will have nothing on Lake Tahoe when it's over.
The inaugural Boil 'n Fry Day Festival is Lake Tahoe's version of an old fashioned New Orleans crawdad feed, complete with live music at the MontBleu Outdoor Event Center, carnival games, hot wings, cold beer and all the fried, boiled or barbecued fresh water crustaceans partygoers.
The outdoor party starts at 1 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults, $8 for kids 6 to 15, free for little ones and can be bought at the main event, the MontBleu Box Office, or by calling 1-888-829-7630. Go here for more information.
"Whether you call them crawfish, crayfish, crawdads, crawdaddies or Tahoe Lobster, the party we're throwing will boil down to one ragin' Cajun good time," said Jack Fisher, General Manager of MontBleu Resort. "Only in Tahoe can we celebrate our lake's crystal blue water by cooking thousands of these delicious wonders.”
Last year, Nevada wildlife officials authorized the Tahoe Lobster Company to become the first commercial outfit to harvest crawfish.
The Boil 'n Fry Day festival is a celebration of Tahoe Lobster Company's first harvest year anniversary and a Wild West revival of a fresh water delicacy made famous in the Deep South, most notably New Orleans.
MontBleu will fire up barbecues, hot-oil vats and steaming stew pots. The festival features live music by five bands, carnival and lawn games including a $250 bean bag toss competition, croquet, bocce ball, Frisbee, a dunk tank, craft beer, full bar, spicy hot wings, a cool-off zone, cash prizes and raffles. Tasters can sample by the platefuls in this all-you-can eat event.
Meanwhile inside MontBleu the same day, there will be an out of the water celebration: The third annual Tahoe Show body building and sculpting competition. The event attracts dozens of the region’s fittest to compete for cash prizes in a judged competition featuring bodybuilding, figure and physique, fitness and bikini. The women’s pro figure segment is sanctioned by the International Federation of Body Building and Fitness with a $6,000 prize.
Pre-judging starts at 9:45 a.m. with the finals at 6 p.m. For more info about the show and to purchase VIP Front Row tickets, go to www.Tahoeshow.com.
