Carson City athletes shine at weekend Paydirt Challenge mountain bike race
Visit Carson City and pro cyclist Peter Stetina hosted the Peter Stetina Paydirt Challenge gravel race in Carson City this weekend. More than 600 bikers from around the world participated in either the 69-mile long course or the 56-mile medium course races.
The races showed off the natural beauty of the area with routes that summited Brunswick Canyon, descended Sunrise Pass, and toured James Lee Park and Clear Creak trails in Douglas County.
The event was facilitated by a host of volunteers who supported aid stations along the courses as well as finish line food and drink stations at Fuji Park. The Carson Senators mountain bike team had a number of volunteers at the event and provided all of the racers with an enthusiastic cheering section throughout the day.
All racers had a mass start at Fuji Park to kick off the day. Carson City was represented by a number of riders including three members of the Kit Carson Youth Cycling team; Josh Fox, Riley Kuhlman and Kaiden Kuhlman. The Kit Carson riders all turned in excellent performances.
Riley Kuhlman took 2nd place for the Junior Women’s division of the 56-mile race, with Josh Fox coming in 3rd place overall for the Men’s 56-mile race and Kaiden Kuhlman earning 11th place overall for the Men’s 56-mile race.
