Heading into the final weekend of October, Halloween and Nevada Day events will keep revelers busy through Sunday making for a jam packed weekend of fun for families and grownups around the Carson City region.

Halloween will be celebrated this week at one of the most haunted destinations in the country, Virginia City, where the Wild West and ghosts of the past are part of the Comstock's legendary folklore.

What better place to be than in Virginia City where the veil between the dead and living is thin, and the spirit of Halloween comes to life?

Although most retail businesses in the state were allowed to open May 9 to in-person service with extra precautions as part of the state’s “Phase 1” reopening, casino resorts were noticeably excluded.

Virginia City, Nev., once a boomtown responsible for producing more than $700 million in mined gold and silver ore from the Comstock Lode, is today primarily driven by tourism. Its main street is lined with mom and pop shops, restaurants and businesses with owners who’ve called this small mountain mining town their home for years.

Photographer Allison Gill was driving on East Lake Boulevard, north of Carson City on Monday evening and saw these wild horses by Little Washoe Lake. She thought they were beautiful and, being the aspiring photographer that she is, pulled over and hiked out into the field to get some pictures. These horses are exactly what you think of when you think of Wild West Nevada.

Heading into the last weekend of January there’s a mountain of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include a Chinese New Year Celebration at the Nevada State Museum and the Children's Museum of Northern Nevada. The Carson Comedy Club hosts its first Military Appreciation Night on Friday at the Carson Nugget. Carson Valley’s 18th annual Eagles and AG Photo Contest will be underway and live music will keep the Silver State buzzing with excitement. Read on for more information.

The Misfits Theater Group in Dayton is holding auditions for its Spring melodrama “Showdown at Phingerdoo or Bad Day at Dead Frog Flats” on Sunday, January 26 at 6 p.m. at the Dayton Library, 321 Dayton Valley Rd, Dayton. This old-time melodrama directed by Andra Woolman is set in the Wild West and has a cast of eight (8) men and five (5) women. As with all melodramas, good triumphs over evil, love wins out, and laughs abound! Performance dates are April 24, 25, 26 and May 1, 2, 3 at the Odeon Hall in Dayton. Saturday's Nevada Day parade in Carson City represented the Silver State in all its glory from wild west to traditional themes that included marching bands, plenty of costumed participants, cheerful clowning plus new floats and the return of some classics. Here's some photos from the parade.

CARSON CITY — To commemorate its historic 150-year anniversary, V&T Railway has introduced special anniversary trains running every Friday through the end of the season. Beginning Friday, Aug. 16, the Carson City to Virginia City train will feature re-enactments at the depot and during the 24-mile round-trip ride.

Samuel Langhorne Clemens was born in Florida, Missouri on November 30, 1835. Mark Twain was born in Carson City, Nevada on February 3, 1863.

Though most know this is one and the same person, the name Mark Twain and his writings, tall tales and witticisms are known throughout the world while Samuel Clemens has been reduced to a trivia question.

A classic film, cowboy poetry and western music in mid-July at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park in Carson Valley. On Thursday, July 18, at 6:30 pm, train expert Jim Clark will introduce and provide commentary on the 1926 film The General.

The 28th annual Rocky Mountain Oyster Fry and St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Virginia City rocked, rolled and bounced Saturday among the thousands of partygoers who arrived in the famed Comstock town to celebrate a cuisine tradition of the Old West and swill some good ole' fashion Irish cheer.

Virginia City is known for two things: mining history and quirky, off-the-wall events. In 2019, those two things are joined together with the announcement of the historic Nevada town’s annual special events lineup and online ticket sales.

Sinda Slagle, the author of “London Spies” will speak at the Brewery Arts Cafe in Carson City on Thursday, Jan. 10, 2019, as part of the BAC's Book Masters meeting.

She will speak a little bit about her book and bring books for sale. We will have a question and answer session. Her books are available on Amazon including Audio Books, Sundowner in Reno, and Morleys Book Store in Carson City may have some copies left.

This event is free. It begins at 5:15 p.m. at the Brewery Arts Center Cafe, 449 West King Street in Carson City.

Buffalo Bill’s Wild West returns to Dangberg Historic Park for a third year on Saturday, August 25 with festivities beginning at 2 p.m. This is the park’s final special event of the 2018 Dangberg Summer Festival, focused on raising funds to support the operation and future of the park.

Don your boots and cowboy hats for two-days of rodeo in Virginia City this weekend. It’s a Wild West show done up Virginia City style, filled with favorite events and a whole lot of the unexpected.
