Local students win scholarships from Greater Nevada Credit Union
Sixteen Northern Nevada high school graduates were recently awarded $1000 scholarships from Greater Nevada Credit Union. Over 100 students applied for the program which the Credit Union has offered to local students for the past decade.
“We are always proud to help some of the region’s finest students with financial support for their continuing education,” said Wally Murray, President/CEO for Greater Nevada Credit Union.
The scholarships were awarded on a competitive basis and were based primarily on each student’s financial need, academic performance, school and community involvement and recommendations from school and community leaders.
The following students were awarded the $1,000 scholarship that can be used for tuition, course registration, special class or laboratory fees, room and board, textbooks and class materials: Kaitlin Babbitt, Justin Barlow, Alyssa Brown, Maria Gutierrez-Garcia and Mariah Druann Martinez of Carson City; Jonathan Anthony and Morgan Wall from Sparks; Jenna Calloway and Kayla Hunter of Wellington; Rachel Davis, Sarah Owens and Jacquelyn Edwardson of Gardnerville; William Dominguez of Ely; Craig Kondoff of Smith Valley; and Elizabeth Hatheway and Kyle Dazey of Reno.
In addition to the 16 recipients, three alternates were also selected in the event that one or more of the winners is unable to enroll or attend school on a full time basis during the 2010-2011 school year.
