Butterfly garden activity, birdwatching walk featured events in June at Dayton State Park
June events at Dayton State Park include a Butterfly Garden Activity and a birdwatching walk.
June 16: Butterfly Garden Activity
This family-friendly program will focus on Monarch butterflies! Topics covered include the life cycle of a Monarch butterfly and important plants that support butterflies and other pollinators.
We will provide one greenhouse kit per family, so everyone can take home their own butterfly garden. We will also be making butterfly ornaments for decoration. Supplies are limited. Reservations are required and can be made by calling (775) 687-4319 or emailing us at wlsp@parks.nv.gov.
WHEN: Sunday, June 16, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
WHERE: Dayton State Park. Meet at the Group Use Pavilion. Dayton is located 12 miles east of Carson City, NV on US Highway 50. Dayton State Park is located across the highway from the Gold Ranch Casino.
COST: The park entrance fee is $5 per vehicle for Nevada residents and $10 per vehicle for non- Nevada residents. We can accept cash or check. There is no additional fee for this event.
WHO: This event is open to the public and is hosted by Dayton State Park.
June 23: Basic Birdwatching
Meet at the park entrance for an introduction to birdwatching! A limited number of binoculars and bird guides will be provided, but feel free to bring your own if you have them! We will introduce participants to Dayton State Park and its variety of birds before making our way along the Carson River.
The walk is less than one mile, round-trip. This family-friendly program will last approximately one hour. Pets are not recommended for this program. Participants should bring a hat, comfortable walking shoes, water, sun protection, and insect repellant.
