Carson City to celebrate July 4 holiday weekend with RSVP carnival, fireworks Monday at Mills Park
This will be the 24th year that RSVP has sponsored the holiday weekend carnival, complete with fireworks on Monday, July 4, plus plenty of rides, music, food booths, arts and crafts vendors and demonstrations throughout the weekend.
The synchronized fireworks display will again be set to a patriotic musical score and broadcast on Wild 102.9 FM with a live radio remote from Mills Park. Leading up to the fireworks will be live music by Jake Armer and the Hotdogs. Fireworks will be set off after 9 p.m.
Among the new attractions this year will be skateboard demonstrations by Wheelhouse bike and skateboard shop in Carson City, a Care Flight landing, a live Sunday simulcast on Lazer 107.7 FM from 4 to 6 p.m.
"We plan to produce the fireworks extravaganza again in Carson City as we have for the past 23 years. Our nation’s Independence is surely cause for celebration,” said Susan Haas, Executive Director and CEO of RSVP.
She noted that RSVP’s former director, Janice Ayres, began producing the fireworks shows in 1992 after they were no longer allowed to shoot them off the top of the Ormsby House.
“From that day until now, RSVP has done the fundraising for this event and has accomplished all of the behind the scenes work to ensure that Carson City and the region has its own fireworks show at Mills Park,” said Haas. “We are able to do this with the help of the Carson City Fire Department, Carson City Sheriff’s Office, Carson City Parks and Recreation, Carson City High School, and the Carson City Chamber of Commerce.
Along with Carson City sponsors, RSVP also enlists the support of many local businesses who have been steadfast in their support of the event, she said. The Carson City Board of Supervisors has helped to support the event since July, 2011.
“This support, and community donations have been essential for us moving forward to ensure continuation of this great patriotic event in Carson City,” said Haas.
All day carnival wristbands are $30. RSVP is offering $5 discount coupons available available at the RSVP Office and RSVP Beer Booth.
All proceeds assist seniors to help them remain independent at home with dignity. RSVP’s mission is to help frail, homebound, and low income seniors remain independent by providing high quality programs which allow them to stay in their own homes with dignity. Additionally, RSVP coordinates a volunteer network of seniors who use their skills and talents to provide support to community agencies through service.
