Care Flight

New helicopter added to Care Flight fleet to ensure access to emergency care in rural Nevada

Care Flight, a service of REMSA Health, celebrated the arrival of a new helicopter. The new aircraft, Care Flight 1, will begin service in late winter 2024, ensuring access to life-saving emergency medical care in rural Nevada. It will replace a similar, but older model helicopter. Care Flight 1 will be based in Fallon, Nevada as one of four in Care Flight’s fleet of helicopters.

UPDATE 3:00 p.m.: Law enforcement has cleared the scene and the vehicle was towed. According to Furlong the driver of the vehicle was a man in his 50s. They are currently not regarding the collision as suspicious. It is being investigated by the traffic unit as well as by Nevada Highway Patrol. The driver is suspected to have driven through the cement pylons and through the front doors of the store, and continued through the store striking four people until the vehicle came to a stop. The driver of the vehicle along with four individuals struck inside the store were taken to the hospital.

UPDATE 2:06 p.m.: They are preparing to remove the vehicle from the building.

UPDATE 1:00 p.m.: Stewart is reopened.

UPDATE 11:49 a.m.: According to Sheriff Ken Furlong they believe the driver of a vehicle traveling West on Wright Street experienced a medical emergency, causing them to continue through Stewart Street and directly into the doors of Sportsman’s Warehouse. The vehicle struck five people as it drove through the store.

UPDATE 11:43 a.m.: Both Care Flight helicopters have taken off and are heading to the hospital.

UPDATE 11:36 a.m.: Both helicopters have landed. Stewart Street is blocked.

UPDATE 11:08 a.m.: A second helicopter was ordered to the scene.

Streets will be closed down near the scene including at the roundabout for the helicopter to land.

Douglas County sheriff's officer recovering after being shot 3 times, suspects booked in Carson City

A Douglas County Sheriff's Office sergeant is recovering after being shot three times late Sunday in Gardnerville. Two suspects are in custody and are being held in Carson City. The following news release was issued from DCSO:

UPDATE: From the Douglas County Sheriff's Office Facebook page: On Dec. 20, 2020 at approximately 11:15 p.m. an officer Involved shooting occurred in Douglas County NV near Douglas Ave in Gardnerville, NV.

The incident is currently under investigations and no suspects are outstanding. The Suspect is currently being treated at the hospital for injuries. Highway 395/Gillman to Waterloo remain closed. The Sheriff’s Office is asking the public to please avoid the area. More information will be released when it becomes available.

The Carson City Sheriff's Office will be the lead investigation agency, as protocol for officer involved shootings to have an outside agency investigate, said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong. There are two suspects who were in a vehicle, a male and female, who were involved in the incident. Both are in custody, said Furlong. The condition of the injured officer is unknown at this time.

UPDATE 10:17PM: A 72-year-old male pedestrian was seriously injured and flown to the trauma ward at Renown Medical Center in Reno Monday night following a vehicle crash near a crosswalk at the intersection of Hot Springs Road and Pine Lane. Carson City Sheriff's Office Sgt. Nate Brehm said the driver of the vehicle is cooperating and told officers she didn't see the man.

Drugs or alcohol do not appear to be a factor, said Brehm. The victim was conscious and suffered injuries to his leg and hip. NHP is also involved in the accident investigation.

Just after 2:30 p.m. responders were called to Deer Run Road near Ambrose Park on report of a single motorcycle crash with injuries.

Careflight was called soon after.

Deer Run is completely blocked in both directions as of 2:40 p.m.

A two vehicle head-on crash Wednesday evening on Highway 395 near Muller Lane in Douglas County shut down the northbound lane of the highway, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

Careflight called to stabbing at Warm Springs Correctional Center in Carson City

UPDATE: Nevada Department of Corrections Public Information Officer Scott Kelley shared these additional details regarding then incident:

There was a stabbing of a male offender this morning at Warm Springs Correctional Center. Carson City emergency services was contacted via 911 and responded to WSCC at 9:40 am. A medical helicopter arrived, and left at 10:10 a.m. to transport the offender to a local hospital to receive medical care. WSCC's warden was notified by telephone. The incident is under investigation.

Carson City Sheriff: 4 juveniles in custody as Saturday's shooting investigation continues

UPDATE: At approximately 4:30 p.m., State Division of Investigations officers took a fourth juvenile into custody related to the Saturday, Jan. 25 shooting. The Carson City Sheriff’s Office has determined that no other suspects are being sought at this time. The fourth juvenile will be returned to Carson City, where he will be charged similarly to those already in custody.
