Carson City weather: gusty winds prompt Red Flag warning, cool down through Friday
Low pressure will bring gusty winds and cool temperatures into Friday with the highest winds on Wednesday as a cold front moves through the region. A Red Flag Warning is in effect until 11 p.m. for the Sierra front, which includes Carson City.
Strong winds will likely result in aircraft turbulence, high profile vehicle restrictions, and also dangerous boating conditions on Wednesday. Winds will be from the southwest, 20 to 30 mph with gusts to 50 mph, according to the National Weather Service.
These strong winds along with dry conditions will also result in high fire danger for Carson City, Reno, and Minden.
Although winds will not be quite as strong on Thursday, we still expect choppy conditions on area lakes. Showers are possible north of Interstate 80 Wednesday and Thursday with snow above 5,500 feet possible across Lassen and Plumas counties.
Thursday morning may be cold enough to affect any outdoor gardens, so take note and protect sensitive plants. Summer conditions will return for the start of next week.
Daytime highs around Carson City, Carson Valley and Dayton areas Wednesday and Thursday will be in the upper 60s and inching toward 70 on Friday. Overnight lows will be in the low to mid 40s.
