Carson Nugget director of finance Denise Darling elected to nonprofit health care board

The Nevada Business Group on Health, a non-profit organization dedicated to representing more than 70 Northern Nevada employers and their employees in matter related to cost-effective health, health care and health insurance products and services, has appointed Denise Darling, director of finance at Carson Nugget Casino in Carson City, to its board of directors.

“With the help of strong financial minds like Denise Darlings', NVBGH will continue to help its employer members make wise healthcare and insurance decisions for the benefit of their employees, and expand their access to healthcare services and products," said Executive Director and CEO Allen Meadows.

With 10 years of experience overseeing the accounting for two different casinos in California and Nevada, Darling brings to the NVBGH board a great depth of knowledge and expertise in matters of finance, accounting, insurance, and determining health benefit packages, premiums and costs for employees. Formerly an accounting manager and bookkeeper for various non-profits, Darling also boasts a broad understanding of grants and funding for non- profit businesses.

Carson Nugget, a business of approximately 209 employees located in Carson City, has been a member of NVBGH for 11 years. The casino offers its employees medical, dental, vision, long- and short-term disability, thanks in part to the aid of the NVBGH. Additionally, the casino provides wellness programs for diabetes, weight loss, and smoking cessation, as well as a discounted gym membership program.

“Carson Nugget Casino benefits from the power of group negotiation through the NVBGH,” Darling reflects. “Because of our membership, we receive a great response from the local doctors, hospitals and programs that are available to us. It would be much more difficult if I were to go at these resources alone.”

Darling explains that she also values the NVBGH membership for the resources, education and networking opportunities it affords her company. “Aside from doing a great job negotiating contracts, healthcare packages and pricing with the local health networks, the NVBGH organization offers many valuable resources—from ACA updates, knowledgeable speakers at the educational seminars to other members in key positions in HR and healthcare,” she concludes.

NVBGH was originally formed in 1995 as a partnership between large public employers and private employers to do group contracting with area hospitals and physicians.

NVBGH and its management company Nevada Health Partners (NHP) collectively represent approximately 30,000 employees from employer members Atlantis Casino Resort Spa, Baldini’s Sports Casino, Carson Nugget, Eldorado Hotel Casino, Click Bond, Silver Legacy Resort, Carson Tahoe Health Systems, City of Reno, City of Sparks, Club Cal Neva, Diocese of Reno, John Ascuaga’s Nugget, Lakeside Inn and Casino, NV Energy, Washoe County, and Washoe County School District. NVBGH Affiliate Members include Boehringer-Ingelheim, Merck & Co., Inc., Novo Nordisk, Ethicon Endo-Surgery, Inc., GenentechUSA, GlaxoSmithKline, Novartis Pharmaceutical Corporation, L/P Insurance Services and Wells Fargo Insurance Services, USA, Inc., among others.
