The Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada is kicking off its first of several fundraisers. Like many other businesses the Children’s Museum is also struggling to make ends meet. Operating costs such as rent and utilities make it impossible for a nonprofit whose main funding source has been cut by 75% to make ends meet.

With $51 million having been allocated to Nevada small businesses as part of the Pandemic Emergency Technical Support Grant program, Gov. Steve Sisolak is asking the Legislature to approve $50 million more for struggling small businesses in the Silver State.

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Division of Environmental Protection announced Tuesday that it has received $1 million in Clean Water Act grant funds provided by the U.S Environmental Protection Agency that will be used to complete 11 projects to reduce “nonpoint source pollution” and improve water quality across the state.

CARSON CITY — Nevada artists who have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic may apply through Jan. 29, 2021, for a $1,000 grant to be used to alleviate financial pressures due to COVID-19. Properly completed applications for the Fiscal Year 2021 Artist Relief Grant program will be entered into a process for randomized selection. If application requests exceed funding available, the Nevada Arts Council will prioritize geographic diversity and underserved populations.

Carson City is now accepting letters of intent to apply for its Community Support Services Grant. Non-profit organizations and government agencies are qualified to fill out the Letter of Intent. The Colorado Street roadway and sidewalk infrastructure, between S. Carson Street and Saliman Road, is in poor condition. The Carson City Regional Transportation Commission has allocated funding to make improvements. Please participate in a needs assessment survey to help prioritize future improvements.

This holiday season, The Salvation Army’s Del Oro Division, which covers Northern Nevada and Northern California, has raised $800,000 less with its iconic Red Kettle Campaign compared to last year. In 2019, the nonprofit brought in $2.4 million to support Christmas assistance and fund programs throughout the year. So far this year, The Salvation Army has brought in just over $1.6 million. CARSON CITY — Nevada Supreme Court Justice Mark Gibbons will be retiring from the Nevada Supreme Court in January 2021, capping a nearly 24-year career as a member of Nevada’s judiciary. Justice Gibbons was first elected to the Nevada Supreme Court in 2002, making him the longest serving of the high court’s current seven members.

Gov. Steve Sisolak announced on Sunday that he is extending current coronavirus health and safety restrictions for another month and putting in place a new moratorium on evictions through the end of March.

In our region, as well as in many areas across the country, there have been massive spikes in COVID-19 transmissions over the past few months. Even as restaurants and bars were reopened, daily positive cases were generally staying within single digits inside the Quad-County region.

However, between October and December, both test positivity rates as well as overall cases — and deaths — have seen a massive increase. Local health organizations are now not only fighting against the disease, but against misinformation campaigns as well.
