Hosted by the Silver City Small Actions Committee (SCSAC) and the Comstock Democratic Club, the Picnic on the Comstock will be a gathering of Democrats and Progressives from across northern Nevada. Guests will include party leaders, local party organizations, independent progressive groups, and Democratic candidates for office. The event will include food, music, a few speeches, and lots of opportunities for Democrats and Progressives to share ideas, inspire one another, and get united and energized for the 2018 mid-terms.

Potluck picnic (bring a dish!) – The Comstock Democratic Club will serve BBQ pulled pork sandwiches, vegetarian beans and dessert. $10 suggested donation per person

Informational Booths – Local and regional political and nonprofit groups will provide information and answer questions

Background:

The Comstock Democratic Club and the Silver City Small Actions Committee are teaming up to host a community potluck and fundraising event designed to inform, inspire and energize the public with an eye toward influencing the 2018 midterm elections in Nevada

The idea for the event came after some Comstock Democratic Club members attended a postcard writing event hosted by the Silver City Small Actions Committee last spring in the wake of the 2016 general election. Silver City, a stronghold of democratic voters in the majority republican Lyon County, and center of Comstock history arts and culture is a natural venue for a community event designed to bring democrats and progressives together on the issues facing Nevada in the 2018 midterm elections.

The event is a chance for citizens to gather, build support and begin to organize a unified front going into a critical midterm election in Nevada. Both the Silver City Small Actions Committee and the Comstock Democratic Club recognize the importance of working together to galvanize support for an effective strategy and viable candidates in 2018.

The Silver City Small Actions Committee (SCSAC) was formed by local residents Evangeline Elston and Meg Burns following the 2016 general election, to facilitate the organizing of small actions (letter and post card writing campaigns, protest event involvement and will campaign for democratic and progressive candidates in the 2018 midterm election) by local residents to resist the Trump agenda and to engage on a number of important local and statewide issues. It has grown to include about 15 people who meet every other Sunday morning. Additionally, the SCSAC is organizing against the open pit mine in Silver City proposed by Comstock Mining.
