Happening Saturday: Silver City Holiday Artisans Fair to feature local, regional fine artists and artisans

On Saturday, Dec. 2, 12 local and regional fine artists and artisans will show and sell their handmade wares in the beautiful, festively decorated historic Silver City Schoolhouse in Silver City, the heart of the Comstock. Admission is free.
Painting in the Sierra Workshop & Retreat

St. Mary’s Art Center has been home to art retreats and art classes since 1964. Located in the beautiful, historic 1876 former hospital, this Comtock gem is the perfect location to relax, learn, create, and connect.
All levels of painting experience are welcome; some painting experience recommended.
Western Nevada College releases Dean's List for Carson City and beyond

The WNC Fall 2020 Dean’s List includes 408 students, accounting for 34.7 percent of the college’s full-time students.
Lyon County Commissioners approve seeking appraisal of potential new Government Complex in Dayton

The Board of County Commissioners approved the item at their November 5, 2020 meeting.

Western Nevada College recognizes 93 students on summer dean’s list

To earn this recognition during the summer session, students attained a grade point average of 3.50 or higher and completed six units of classes or more.

Lyon County Board of Commissioners unanimously agree to emergency declaration
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Mon, 03/16/2020 - 4:44pmThe Lyon County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a Declaration of Emergency through Resolution 20-05 and a meeting Monday afternoon, according to County Manager Jeff Page.
There was one person who poke against the resolution. Lyon County staff will now begin implementing procedures to address the declaration.

380 students make Western Nevada College fall semester Dean's List

After 373 students made the Dean’s List last fall, that total was topped by 380 students who qualified for the honor for the recently concluded fall semester.
To earn the distinction of making WNC’s Dean’s List, students must complete at least 12 units during the semester and accumulate a grade point average of 3.50 or higher. Honorees include:

Valedictorian of the 2018 graduating class at Argent Preparatory Academy, Rasmussen studied art at Western Nevada College through their early college entry program and completed her Associate of Arts degree at 18.
Award Winning Poet David Lee Offers Reading Nov. 2 in Silver City

His repeated stays in the historic Comstock town inspired his latest book of poems, Mine Tailings. It is dedicated to the people of Silver City. The book was released by 5 Sisters Press this Fall, and will be the focus of Lee’s reading at the Silver City Schoolhouse (community center) on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 1 p.m.
Central Lyon Fire adds 2 new engines, first new apparatus in nearly 10 years

Nevada Lore Series: Brewery Arts Center's history and latest Carson City ownership transfer
Submitted by Kelsey Penrose on Thu, 09/19/2019 - 12:44pmDuring Thursday’s Board of Supervisor’s Meeting, the Board voted on a measure to transfer ownership of the site of the Brewery Arts Center into the hands of the Brewery Arts Center themselves. For the past 40 years, the City has held ownership of the property at 449 King Street, and has been leasing the property to the organization.
The site of today’s Brewery Arts Center has gone through several changes in its time. The Carson Brewery was first built in 1860 by John Wagner, who created the brewery during the Comstock rush to wet the whistles of all those hoping to become the next gold-rush billionaire, and it became Nevada’s longest-operating brewery to date.

It’s going to get hot again today with a high of 93, but don’t worry, as we get out further into the week the weather will turn more autumnal with highs in the 70s. It could be the last hot day for a while, at least until a freak 90s+ hot day in November followed by a week long blizzard, so enjoy it while it’s here!
