Happy Saturday Carson City! It’s going to be a hot, sunny summer day in the capital city with a high of 94. We’ve got a ton of great events to attend, so make sure to bring some sunscreen!

Saturday, August 3

Vincent Solis, president of Western Nevada College, will be the featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon. A life-long educator with more than 25 years of service in higher education, Dr. Solis began his tenure at WNC on July 1, 2018. A visionary leader and inspirational speaker, his presentation is a must-see for anyone interested in the crucial role higher education will play in the rapidly changing economy of the 21st century.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days, including Hot August Nights Kickoff Rallies in Virginia City, history walks at Mormon Station Park, pickleball at the Carson City MAC, concerts at the Brewery Arts Center and TJ’s Corral, a Muscle Powered Sunday morning bike ride and more!

Good day Carson City and welcome to Thursday, August 1, 2019. More of the same weather wise is in store today, with sunny skies and a daytime high near 90. Activities ahead include a morning hike, a meeting of the Carson City Board of Supervisors, art showings, a "Pint for Pint" blood drive at the Fox Brewpub, a coin mint party at the Nevada State Museum, outdoor music at Living the Good Life and more. The Continuing Education program offered by Western Nevada College is offering a 5-day computer coding program designed for middle- and high-school students, ages 8-17.

Continuing Education at Western Nevada College offers 30 hours of new driver education. Meets requirements to obtain a Nevada driver's license. Uses lectures, interactive CD's, guest speakers and videos in a classroom setting to cover Nevada driving regulations, basic vehicle control, and challenging situations. Open to students ages 15 and above. PLEASE NOTE: Driver Education class fees are non-refundable.

A night of fact or fiction is coming to Western Nevada College’s Jack C. Davis Observatory in Carson City. Mike Thomas will provide his take on the legitimacy of the “Legend of King Arthur” on Friday, Aug. 2 at the observatory.

Speaking of “Superhumans,” a night later on Saturday, Aug. 3, Thomas will kick off the observatory’s star party with a slide show presentation of a variety of real people who have abilities who can only be described as “super.”

Heading into the last day of the month, July 31, 2019 and we should note it has been a pretty good summer so far weather wise, without much in the way of extreme heat. But as they say here in the Silver State, wait 15 minutes and it is bound to change. On tap Wednesday, there's a preserving family history workshop hosted by the Nevada State Library and Archives, art showings, Wheeled Food Wednesday at the Brewery Arts Center and more. Enjoy.

With a daytime high around 92 and plenty of sunshine, activities lined up around Carson City for Tuesday, July 30, feature a midnight meteor shower gathering at the Jack C. Davis Observatory, morning and evening hikes, a Capital City youth fall baseball meeting, a ladies bike ride, a Relay for Life fundraiser at Firehouse Subs, archery at Centennial Park, art showings and more. UPDATE: There's a star party late Monday night into Tuesday morning hosted by Carson City Parks and Recreation and Open Space. For summer’s most visible meteor showers, join the Carson City Parks, Rec and Open Space Department at Western Nevada College’s Jack C. Davis Observatory for some late night, educational fun. No pre-registration necessary. Please wear close-toed shoes and bring water for night hiking from the Observatory. Head lamps and flashlights are allowed. This upcoming Monday is the Aquariids Viewing Party starting at 12:00 a.m. Tuesday (technically Monday night).

Heading into Monday, July 29, 2019 and we're wondering how the month went by so quickly. Again we're looking at a fairly typical end of July day weather wise, with sunny skies and a high around 94. On tap around Carson City are athletic, art and speaking events, a life guard camp, a computer coding camp, line dancing lessons and more. Enjoy.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of events around the Carson City region over the next three days, including the Carson City Fair, Karson Kruzers Run What Cha Brung car show, a fundraiser bike ride, cooking classes, tours at the Nevada State Museum, train rides on Saturday and much more!

Continuing Education at Western Nevada College is offering a brand-new five-day coding boot camp program designed for middle and high school students from Monday, July 29 through Aug. 2. The course is offered in partnership with Alphalancers, LLC, a web design and development company based in Reno.

More of the same weather wise is headed our way as we round the corner going into Thursday, July 25, 2019. Activities around the Carson City area feature a Muscle Powered hike along a portion of the Tahoe Rim Trail, Status of Women in Northern Nevada conference at the Carson Nugget, a lecture series at the Carson City BRIC, Freedom Fest Carson City GOP Barbecue at Glen Eagles, Thursday Cruise Night at Max Casino, plus afternoon and evening presentations on the Apollo Lunar Mission at the Nevada State Museum. The countdown to the weekend begins as we head into midweek, Wednesday, July 24, 2019 with daytime highs in the low 90s and plenty of indoor and outdoor activities. Topping the list is the Northern Nevada Development Authority's Legislative Roundup at Casino Fandango. If you want to know how this year's legislative session will affect business, be there. For those who look to the stars for the big picture, there's a multi-media hands on science day presentation at the Nevada State Museum as part of the Apollo 11 moon landing celebration; then there's Wheeled Food Wednesday at the Brewery Arts Center and lots more. Heading into Tuesday, July 23, 2019 there's plenty of indoor and outdoor activities around Carson City, including a morning power walk and evening hike and bike ride, an Apollo lecture at the Nevada State Museum, high tech imaging demonstrations with NASA technology at the Carson City Library Digitorium, archery at Centennial Park, art showings and more. Enjoy.

The heat is on heading into Monday, July 22, 2019. We're looking at another sunny day in the capital city region with daytime highs in the mid to upper 90s. If you're up for for a walk or bike ride to get the oxygen flowing, it might be best to get it done first thing in the morning. Otherwise, there's plenty of ways to stay cool. Looking ahead for the first day of the work week there's a local talk, art classes, line dancing and more.

As we begin to round out the work week heading into Thursday, July 18, 2019, we're looking at the same amount of sun with a daytime high around 90. Not bad for the middle of July. Activities lined up include a Muscle Powered hike, a cultural awareness conference at Carson Valley Inn, an artist reception at Artsy Fartsy, art classes at Rustically Divine, Thursday Cruise Night, the first "Third Thursday" farmer's market and barbecue in Dayton, a presentation on the Apollo Lunar Mission at the Carson City Library and more.

Come and learn how to make book art jewelry from the artists of My Thousand Words, Rachael and Debbie Lambin. There are two classes offered, pick which one you like. Hope to see you!

The events are Friday, July 26 from 6:30 to 830 p.m. and Saturday, July 27, 2-4pm at Western Nevada College.

Students will be learning to make jewelry from books and magazines and enjoying wearing beautiful recycled jewelry that doesn't look like it is recycled at all.

Midweek, here we come! Heading into Wednesday, July 17, 2019 and we're looking at another sunshine-filled day full of activities including Trails 4 Tails at Riverview Park, an open house at Carson City's Foreman-Roberts House Museum, Wheeled Food Wednesday at the Brewery Arts Center with a showing of "Monster's University" to follow and more. Enjoy the day.

As we head into Tuesday, July 16, 2019 we're reminded it's halfway through the month and time sure is flying as we celebrate our summertime favorite stops around the Carson City region. For Tuesday we have walks, hikes and bike rides, a Red Cross "be ready" presentation, Fat Tuesday Business Networking in Dayton, art classes, showings and more. Enjoy.

Heading into Monday, July 15, 2019 the Carson City region is looking at sunny skies, breezy conditions and a slight cooling trend over the next couple days, according to the National Weather Service. In the meantime, it looks to be another fine day in the capital city. Ahead there's a youth mountain bike camp, a presentation by an AARP lobbyist, art showings and more.

Good morning Carson City and happy Saturday! Today we’ve got a packed day of activities, including Carson City’s Proudest Pride event, Sassabration! In addition, we’ve got the Capital City Kid’s Triathlon, the farmers market, a Carson Street car show, and more!

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of events and activities around the Carson City region to help the next three days breeze by. On Friday, Muscle Powered will host a morning walk at the Carson City Multi-Use Path at 8 a.m. And there's coin press demonstrations at the Nevada State Museum.

This 5 day program is designed for middle- and high-school students, ages 12-17. It will provide an introduction to coding, with a focus on HTML. Students will complete a coding project by the end of the week, and will receive a certificate of completion.

To help students prepare for fall semester and to utilize the support available to them, Student Services at Western Nevada College will be open later on Wednesday nights in July and August.

Heading into Monday, July 8, 2019 we want to give a big shout out to all the local organizations and agencies that made this Fourth of July weekend around the Carson City region one to remember. For Monday we're looking at a number of events including a basketball camp at the MAC, a children's theater camp, a local talk with the Carson City Airport manager, art activities, line dancing and more.

As we go forward and move ahead into Tuesday, July 2, 2019 we're looking at another sunny day, all the better as we prepare to celebrate Independence Day. Are you ready for July 4 fireworks at Mills Park? As a Tuesday warmup, get the heart pumping during Muscle Powered's three fitness outings. Plus there's art showings, hands-on science activities in Silver City, an evening archery shoot, a viewing of the 1953 film "From Here to Eternity" at the Brewery Arts Center hosted by the Carson City Classic Cinema Club and more.
