With a daytime high around 92 and plenty of sunshine, activities lined up around Carson City for Tuesday, July 30, feature a midnight meteor shower gathering at the Jack C. Davis Observatory, morning and evening hikes, a Capital City youth fall baseball meeting, a ladies bike ride, a Relay for Life fundraiser at Firehouse Subs, archery at Centennial Park, art showings and more. Midnight star, meteor shower party. There's a star party at midnight Monday night/Tuesday morning hosted by Carson City Parks and Recreation and Open Space. For summer’s most visible meteor showers, join the Carson City Parks, Rec and Open Space Department at Western Nevada College’s Jack C. Davis Observatory for some late night, educational fun. No pre-registration necessary. Please wear close-toed shoes and bring water for night hiking from the Observatory. Head lamps and flashlights are allowed. Parking at the Observatory can be found at 2699 Vanpatten Ave, Carson City. Please call (775) 281-7711 with any questions. This upcoming Monday night Tuesday morning is the Aquariids Viewing Party starting at 12:00 a.m. Tuesday morning, just after Monday evening.

Muscle Powered Tuesday Morning Walk, Northridge Linear Park Trail. 8 a.m. Join Muscle Powered for a free, guided group walk, hike, or ride to enjoy Nevada outdoors around Carson City! Muscle Powered is a local non-profit organization that promotes walking, hiking, biking and trail building. A schedule of all upcoming activities and events can be found at www.musclepowered.org/calendar. Tuesday's walk is at Northridge Linear Park Trail and Blackwell Pond. Meet in the parking area at the corner of New Ridge Drive and Northridge Drive. Morning walks are 1 to 2 miles with duration of 1 hour with usually negligible elevation gain, and frequently on paved or smooth paths. Capital City Arts Initiative presents 'New Crop 2019' exhibit. 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Capital City Arts Initiative presents its exhibition, "New Crop 2019", by artists Mark Combs and Frances Melhop at the CCAI Courthouse Gallery. The Courthouse is located at 885 E Musser Street, Carson City. The gallery is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sculptor Mark Combs gives viewers two approaches to his metalwork. His earlier distressed metal car-part sculptures are ornamented with soldered rods and bolts reflecting a ruptured system both socially and figuratively. His carefully hammered bone pieces came into shape after hours of forging as a nod to death and celebrations of life. Photographer Frances Melhop documents aging rural structures with classic color photography. In Vanish, her printed enlargements of unnamed 19th century portraits on silk are elevated to fly across our vision like fleeting memories.

Capital City Arts Initiative Presents: Fast Lane, Slow Bake. 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Capital City Arts Initiative (CCAI) presents an exhibition, "Fast Lane/Slow Bake" by artists Cyndy Brenneman and Tom Drakulich. Capital City Arts Initiative Presents: Graphically Defined. 8 to 5 p.m. Capital City Arts Initiative (CCAI) is delighted to present Graphically Defined, a group exhibition of work by seventeen Western Nevada College students. This exhibit includes a wide variety of art including ceramics, drawing, graphic design, painting and photography that shows the diversity of the students’ creativity. The Business Resource Innovation Center (BRIC) is open Monday through Friday 8:00-12:00 p.m. and 1:00-4:00 p.m.

WNC to offer coding bootcamp for teens. 9 a.m. Continuing Education at Western Nevada College is offering a brand-new five-day coding boot camp program designed for middle and high school students from Monday, July 29 through Aug. 2. The course is offered in partnership with Alphalancers, LLC, a web design and development company based in Reno. The Computer Coding Bootcamp for Teens will provide students with an introduction to coding, focusing on HTML. By the end of the week, students will complete their own coding project and will receive a certificate of completion from WNC. For those students who are interested in technology as a career, the camp serves as an introduction to coding languages and an opportunity for networking with like-minded peers and professionals. This class is open to Northern Nevadans ages 12-17. The class runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day on the WNC campus in Carson City. The cost for the class is $200. Carson City's Food For Thought to provide daily no cost lunches for kids this summer. Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to noon. In a last minute announcement, Carson City based non-profit Food For Thought, Inc. will continue the Summer Lunch Program during the 2019 season. The program provides free and nutritious lunches to all children under 18. Lunch must be eaten onsite and will be served daily, Monday thru Friday, from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m. in Carson City starting Monday, June 17 until August 9. This year only one serving location is available and will take place at The Bridge Church at 901 N. Stewart Street, Carson City. The Summer Lunch Program provides meals to area children who are unable to access other lunch programs during the months off from school.

NV Energy to host Public Safety Outage Management open house in Genoa. 4 p.m. NV Energy customers are invited to an open-house event Tuesday, July 30 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Genoa Town Hall in Genoa to learn more about NV Energy’s Public Safety Outage Management plans. During a PSOM event, NV Energy will shut off power in extreme fire-risk areas when certain environmental conditions are met in order to protect our customers, equipment and environment from wildfires. NV Energy experts will be on hand to answer questions and share additional information regarding efforts to reduce wildfire risk. NV Energy notes this event is not a formal invitation.

Relay for Life Fundraiser at Firehouse Subs in Carson City. 5 to 9 p.m. Join Team Hope on Tuesday, July 30 at Firehouse Subs, Hwy 50, in Carson City for a Dine And Donate event to benefit the Carson City, Douglas County Relay For Life. From 5 to 9 p.m., Firehouse Subs will be donating a portion of their proceeds to the American Cancer Society Relay for Life! Firehouse Subs is located at 3120 US-50, Carson City.

Teen Trivia Night at the Carson City Library. 5 p.m. Calling all teens: Bring your space-related science and pop culture knowledge to the Carson City Library on July 30 from 5 to 6 p.m. We'll have trivia, snacks and lots of fun! Assemble your team or come Solo. The Carson City Library is located at 900 North Roop Street.

Carson City Youth Programs Cap City Baseball hits the field. 5:30 p.m. Local non-profit Carson Youth Programs, Inc. is pleased to announce the brand new Cap City Baseball program, with the inaugural season kicking off this fall. The initial parent meeting and practice kick off begins Tuesday, July 30, at 5:30 p.m. at the lower Centennial Park Fields, 3666 Centennial Park Drive, Carson City. Practice will start promptly for those participating, so please plan on arriving early to complete the registration paperwork. Cap City Baseball began as a collective effort by local business owners and volunteer coaches to provide affordable means to expand the skill and competition base of young athletes while fostering community involvement.

Tuesday night archery shoots return to Carson City's Centennial Park Archery Range. 5:30 p.m. Every Tuesday evening, 5:30 to dusk, the Clear Creek Bowmen host its Tuesday Night Archery Shoots at the Centennial Park Archery Range in Carson City. Both traditional and 3D targets are available. The target range is open shooting for use at no cost. There is a $5 fee (kids 17 and under are free) to shoot the 3D animal targets. We have archery equipment, volunteers and instructors to get you started. Come on out and join us. It’s a great way to experience the world of archery. Open to all ages. All riders must carry water and have a mountain bike in safe working condition, helmet, closed toed shoes, spare tube, pump and tools to change a flat tire. Muscle Powered Evening Hike, Tahoe Rim Trail North. 5:30 p.m. Meet at junction 50/395 Park & Ride, Carson City. Meet at the Highway 50 park in ride where we will carpool up to the Spooner Summit trailhead. Evening hikes are usually 1 1/2 hours or more duration and are 4-6 miles in length. If it is raining, snowing, or air quality is unsafe due to smoke, hikes will be cancelled. Empty Bowls, Open Studio. 6 to 8:30 p.m. Create an empty bowl to donate to charity, instruction will be offered to create and paint a bowl or create something on our own during open studio session. Open studio time at Ogres-Holm Pottery is free of charge and open to the public. 1215 South Carson Street.

WNC Continuing Education offers Zumba class. 5:45 p.m. Zumba is a dance form and aerobics fitness program. Zumba involves dance and aerobic movements performed to energetic Latin and pop music from countries around the world. The choreography incorporates hip hop, soca, samba, salsa, meringue and mambo. Squats and lunges are also included. Students should wear comfortable clothing and tennis shoes, and bring a towel, water and a positive attitude! No prior dance experience is required - Zumba is about making friends, getting a workout, and enjoying yourself! Dance Workshop for Couples at Yaple's Ballroom. In this beginner level workshop you must have a partner in this class, we will not be rotating. It can be a friend, husband, wife, boyfriend or girlfriend, you just have to have a buddy with you to be your partner. We are going to learn the style of dance of Night Club Two Step and some other exercises that will help you with your connection to your partner. $20. Carson Medical Group broke ground on their new 31,000 square foot facility off old Hot Springs Road in October 2022 and this June it will officially open its doors to patients.

UPDATE 12:42PM: Southbound I-580 in Carson City was opened as of around 11 a.m., said a Nevada State Police spokeswoman, who provided more details of the fatal crash that happened early Wednesday morning.

Both the driver of a car and a truck involved in the crash died. Their names have not been released pending notification of family members. The car, which was going the wrong way — northbound in the southbound lane — struck the truck and caught on fire, according to a NSP preliminary investigation thus far. The vehicle makes are unknown at this time.

Dayton Elementary School in Lyon County was honored Wednesday along 13 other schools including Carson High in Carson City as a Nevada Purple Star School.

Schools receiving the designation have committed to supporting the educational and social-emotional needs of military-connected children and their families.

Junior Park Ranger Day is back this Saturday, April 27 at Riverview Park in Carson City.

Junior Park Ranger Day is an annual event dedicated to help kids complete their Junior Ranger Adventure Guides and be sworn in all in one day.

Carson City School District hosted a ceremony Wednesday morning with local dignitaries from the Nevada Department of Education and officers from local military bases. Carson High School was honored with a Nevada Purple Star School designation for supporting military-connected students and their families.

A 37-year-old man was arrested for suspicion of obstruction, trespassing and felony sex offender failing to register, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.

Laura Ricks, TOSA/Instructional Coach at Empire Elementary School, was honored as the Carson City School District’s Educator of the Year, at the Tuesday, April 23, school board meeting and annual event.

Additionally, Sandra Guzzetta, special education paraprofessional at Bordewich Bray Elementary School, was recognized as the Education Support Professional Employee of the Year, and Chelise Crookshanks, principal at Mark Twain Elementary School, was recognized as the district’s Administrator of the Year.

Tickets are now available for this summer’s Capital City Brewfest. This year’s event takes place June 22 on Curry Street at McFadden Plaza in Carson City.
