Western Nevada College will move to remote, online instruction effective March 23, and will continue in this manner for the remainder of the spring semester. Our faculty and staff are working diligently to finalize plans to migrate classes to remote instruction, primarily Canvas.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. The monthly Downtown Carson City Wine Walk takes place Saturday followed by a performance from Tom Petty and Rod Stewart tribute bands during The Do Drop In’s “A Face in the Crowd” homeless fundraiser at Fuji Park. St. Teresa School will host its 17th annual Crab Feed Fundraiser. Combined with comedy at the Carson Nugget and Brewery Arts Center, the Carson City region is in store for a busy weekend. Heading into the first Thursday in March and we're looking at continued sunshine with a high near 70. Happenings lined up include a Carson City Board of Supervisors meeting, auditions for the Carson City Follies show in July, trivia night at Bella Vita Bistro, a wood design workshop at Rustically Divine, an artist reception for Galen Brown and Emily Kray at Western Nevada College and a Muscle Powered afternoon hike. The Western Nevada College chapter of the National Student Nurses Association proudly presents our annual Spaghetti Feed, this Friday March 6th, 2020 from 5-8 pm.

Price of admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children. Please come hungry! During our family friendly event we will be hosting our silent auction comprised of items donated by many businesses’ in the Northern Nevada area.

We will also be drawing the winner of our annual 50/50 raffle; the winner will receive 50 percent of the proceeds and the winners of the raffles from years past have made anywhere from $600- $1000.

Hello to everyone in Carson City. My name is Destiny Hernandez, and I am a senior at Carson High School. Just like all of the other seniors here at the school, I am working on my Senior Project, a graduation requirement, in order to benefit not only myself but also those animals in the community who need a home.

The 14th annual Jazz and Beyond is sponsoring Carson City Open Studios Tour. This contemporary cultural event is designed to expand exposure for local artists and beyond by offering a wide variety of exceptional visual arts and open studio space for art-lovers from our region to view.

More than 130 people attended Tuesday's Nevada Manufacturing and Technology Forum at Western Nevada College in Carson City. The event featured tours and information on the college’s Automation & Industrial Technology Center.

Recognition has come frequently to Western Nevada College’s Nursing Program from a variety of sources during the past year. The biggest one arrived last Wednesday when Nursing Process selected WNC’s program as No. 1 in the West Region, which encompasses 426 nursing schools, thereby making it one of the nation’s top programs.

Heading into the last weekend of January there’s a mountain of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include a Chinese New Year Celebration at the Nevada State Museum and the Children's Museum of Northern Nevada. The Carson Comedy Club hosts its first Military Appreciation Night on Friday at the Carson Nugget. Carson Valley’s 18th annual Eagles and AG Photo Contest will be underway and live music will keep the Silver State buzzing with excitement. Read on for more information.

Western Nevada College students, for generations to come, will have Martha “Betty” and Clarence Berger to thank for their start in higher education and shaping their professional careers.

Not only did the nonprofit organization Fellowship of Christian Athletes open their Christmas tree lot Nov. 24 to raise funds for their organization’s events and outreaches, they also supported other organizations and individuals by giving away 350 Angel Tree Christmas stockings and Christmas trees to Carson City children and families in need, and they also partnered with Sierra Lutheran High School to donate 75 trees to the US Marines at the Warfare Training Center in Coleville, Calif.

R.I.P.P.E.D. is designed to help everybody meet their ultimate fitness goals in a super fun group exercise environment.

This 1 hour class combines Resistance, Interval, Power, Plyometrics, Endurance, core and offers a very important Diet program on the Rippedplanet website.

CARSON CITY — Royce Ponton gave birth to a new baby boy, Leviathan Wayne Ponton at 12:53 AM on Jan. 1, the first baby of 2020 at Carson Tahoe; he also achieved the title of first Northern Nevada baby born in 2020! But, unbeknownst to Royce, she had even more to celebrate!

Jack C. Davis Observatory at Western Nevada College is ending 2019 with something new. Observatory Director Thomas Herring will moderate the first “Astronomy Roundtable” on Saturday, Dec 28 at 6:30 p.m.

Attendees at the third annual La Posada Celebration try to hit the piñata at Western Nevada College, on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2019. The event allows students and families to honor their cultural traditions while gaining familiarity with the campus and the Latino Cohort.

Where does the time go? Everyone has heard this a thousand times, but people still need to be reminded of the question anyway because everyone, regardless of what they believe, needs to stop and take a moment to enjoy the moment.

The Orchestra Program of Carson City School District is holding its Holiday Concert Dec. 17 at 6:30 p.m. at the Carson City Community Center. Just the idea of a concert in Carson City is exciting enough, but it gets even better because this musical event will cost audiences absolutely nothing except a little time and effort getting there. Admission is free.
