Late night vote in Washington brings $415 million to Lake Tahoe

Late Friday night, the U.S. House of Representatives joined the U.S. Senate in passing the Water Infrastructure Improvements for the Nation (WIIN) Act of 2016, which will bring $415 million in future funding to Lake Tahoe over the next seven years. The decision brought cheers from many local agencies, including the League to Save lake Tahoe and the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency.

Friends of the Carson City Library is hosting a New York New Year's Eve Party on Dec. 31st from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Carson Plaza Event Center, 211 E. 9th Street.

Proceeds from this event will provide funds to the Carson City Library for equipment. Dinner will be a buffet of tri-tip or shrimp.

A 22-year-old Carson City man was arrested early Wednesday morning for felony suspicion of eluding after allegedly pointing a pellet gun at a victim inside a bar, shooting out windows of a vehicle and then driving 80 mph in the wrong direction on Stewart Street, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Comma Coffee welcomes the Mile High Jazz Band: Election Day Jazz with vocalist Jakki Ford is the perfect way to spend a Tuesday night.

It’s Monday, but this week should go quickly thanks to Veterans’ Day Friday. There’s not much I do to make Monday go by quickly, though. Their fall food drive has begun and you will earn a free book when you drop off donations at Browsers Corner Book Store. It’s the Bills versus the Seahawks in tonight’s football match-up; grab some friends and cheer on your favorite. The Firkin and Fox is the place to go for karaoke for anyone looking to belt out a few tunes.

Senator Square: Carson High to compete Wednesday against rival Douglas in faculty basketball game


This event may not be as exciting as Major League Baseball’s Chicago Cubs triumph over the Cleveland Indians, ending a 108 year title drought, but anyone who ever attended Carson High School or Douglas High School knows that its rivalry has lasted equally as long.

It's now crystal clear our nation's very future hinges upon this election! Neither candidate is highly respected. But Clinton would expand a corrupt governing elite while Trump will blow it up! We can continue as serfs of the corrupt establishment or restore power to the people.

A Case for Hillary (not…)

Hillary Rodham Clinton's four decades of professional misdeeds, scandals and crimes are well documented throughout the internet. Given that history, WHY would ANYBODY like HER to be the next PRESIDENT?!?!? I can think of two reasons.

1. Ideology.

Nevada is one of the few states that celebrate its Admission Day, and boy do we throw a party. A parade, competitions of strength and facial hair, hot air balloons, bloody marys, a carnival, pow wow, and free chili are just a few of the festivities awaiting the capital city on Saturday.

The party begins Friday this year with a ribbon cutting celebration of the 'new' downtown. The Nevada State Museum hits its 75th Anniversary this year and will have a day full of fun and surprises. Carson City Question 1: Overdue support for maintaining and improving our transportation infrastructure

Roads and highways play a vital role in a community's ability to function safely and efficiently. A healthy transportation system has the added benefit of encouraging economic growth and a financially strong community.

Carson City has been struggling to maintain its roadway system for decades and in numerous public meetings held this year under the auspices of the Transportation Resource Advisory Forum for Carson City (TRAFCC) it was apparent that without new sources of revenue, the community will fall only further behind on maintaining our streets in a serviceable condition.

Nevada governor appoints Brad Crowell director of Conservation and Natural Resources agency

Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval announced the appointment Friday of Bradley Crowell, as director of the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, effective Dec. 12. Interim Director Kay Scherer will resume her position as Deputy Director of the Department.

Nevadans will vote in coming days on legalizing the recreational use of marijuana here, as four other states have already done.

Both advocates and opponents have made strident cases to support their views. However, the two camps cite data that appears to conflict. We have mixed views on this initiative, but we are interested in informational clarity.
