Nevada legalizes marijuana, expands gun background checks
Voters on Tuesday approved the legalization of marijuana in the Silver State and narrowly approved an initiative to tighten gun background checks in Nevada.
Backers of Question 1 said they wanted to close the loopholes in the current law by requiring background checks through a licensed gun dealer when most firearms change hands, including personal and online sales.

Nevada voters are also sending another Democrat to Washington to take Sen. Harry Reid's spot as he retires. Catherine Cortez Masto is the new senator elect, edging out Republican Joe Heck.

In the U.S. House District 2 race, Republican Mark Amodei of Carson City defeated Democratic challenger Chip Evans, with 58.3 percent of the vote to Chip Evans 36.9 percent.
