Leaders warn of marijuana use dangers, speak out against November ballot question
Submitted by editor on Sat, 04/16/2016 - 7:28amWhen it comes to legalizing recreational marijuana use in Nevada, Assemblyman P.K. O’Neill, R-Carson City, is asking voters to just say no.
“I’ve lived in Nevada half of my life,” he said. “This is my state. I do not want a state that takes that slippery slope.”
O’Neill was the featured presenter at Partnership Carson City’s Community Action Agency Network meeting at the Carson City Sheriff’s Office on Friday.

Dayton mint has no plans to reduce workforce, company spokesman says
Submitted by Brett Fisher on Sat, 04/09/2016 - 1:11pmA Washington-based precious metals company with a minting facility in Dayton filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection April 1 following a $38 million February judgment in a civil defamation lawsuit against the company's owner, according to various media reports.
According to the company web site, Northwest Territorial Mint, headquartered in Federal Way, WA, operates its primary minting facility at 80 East Airpark Vista Blvd in Dayton.
Washington Street to close this week, Carson City Library to remain open
Submitted by editor on Sat, 04/09/2016 - 11:07amWashington Street between Carson and Roop streets will be completely closed in front of the Carson City Library, Monday through Friday, April 11-15. The library will be open with regular hours all week and parking available at the Carson City Community Center.
Browsers Corner Bookstore across from the library will be closed this week for spring cleaning. The store, which is the fundraising arm of the Friends of the Carson City Library, will reopen Monday, April 18 at 9:30 a.m. It will kick off a weeklong celebration in honor of the store's anniversary.

Emergency crews called to motorcycle crash on Deer Run, two vehicle crash on Highway 50 and College Parkway

One crash involves a motorcycle on Deer Run Road one mile south of Highway 50 and the other crash happened on Highway 50 and College Parkway.
Carson City Fire Department called to accident involving pedestrian at Roop and Washington

The female pedestrian was up and moving around and had suffered an arm injury, according to firefighters on scene. The crash was reported at 3:23 p.m. An ambulance was sent to the scene.

A tour of our Historical west side will give you a new perspective on some of the neat old houses we have around downtown. If you get hungry, it’s hard to go wrong with all you can eat wings at Firkin and Fox; they’ve set up new patio seating on the south side while their Third Street patio gets rebuilt. Lunch or dinner at Chili’s will help the homeless pets that Nevada Humane Society serves.

Vietnam veterans honored at ceremony in Carson City
Submitted by Brett Fisher on Sat, 04/02/2016 - 9:01pmNevada Vietnam War veterans were honored Saturday in Carson City as dozens gathered in Mills Park to observe the Vietnam Veterans Day of Remembrance and hold a welcome home ceremony at the Nevada Vietnam War Memorial.
Frank Reynolds, current president of the Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA) local chapter 388 in Carson City, opened the ceremony with the Pledge of Allegiance and the chapter’s chaplain delivered the invocation.

Two years ago, her memory was honored at the State Capitol with a plaque that commemorated the centennial of her initial launching.
Today, The Nevada was honored again on the State Capitol grounds with a second plaque commemorating the 100th anniversary of her completion and U.S. Navy commissioning.
