WNC College for Kids offers two weeks of youth day camps

Two weeklong sessions are available. Choose one class for one week at $56 per class; choose two morning or afternoon classes for one week for $90, or choose both daily sessions for $120 per week.

Matthew Parmenter of Carson City makes University of Wyoming spring semester dean’s honor roll

The honor rolls consist of regularly enrolled undergraduates above freshman standing who earned a 3.4 or better grade point average, and freshmen who have earned a 3.25 or better grade point average.
The three other Nevada students are Haley Mahiah Cohn of Incline Village, Shane Matthew Bell of Winnemucca and Rachel Kathryn Brock of Las Vegas.
Nevada Arts Council names 2015 Nevada Heritage Award winners

This Tony Award-winning musical tells the tale of Don Quixote, the mad knight who sets out on a noble journey to battle evil and win the heart of the Lady Dulcinea.
In addition to his usual responsibilities as music director for the musical,the school's own Dr. Mark D. Williams, plays the title role of “Don Quixote.” Audiences will be inspired by his performance of “The Impossible Dream.”

The Floyd is well known throughout Northern Nevada for its uncanny musical stylings, spectacular laser light show and iconic Pink Floyd eye-popping videos.

Tintabulations will be performing “Greetings From Tintab” on Saturday, June 14, 11 a.m. in the blackbox theater of the Brewery Arts Center. Their concert weaves stories from the group’s past with modern bell literature.
Carson City Library to host Spokes America 2014

Spokes America is a bike trip across the United States designed to make STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) accessible to students everywhere. The Spokes team will be at the Carson City Library with plans to run a “Learning Festival” during their June 16 visit.

Western Nevada College Peace Officer Academy honors 19 cadets

Graduating cadets represent seven cities in Northern Nevada. They completed a 30-credit program that includes 756 hours of Category I training, according to Academy Coordinator Katie Durbin.

Former Nevada schools superintendent Eugene 'Gene' Paslov dies at age 80

Paslov was married to wife Susan and the couple have three children. He died peacefully at Renown Medical Center in Reno. Services will be held Saturday, 3 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Carson City.
Dayton Residents, Officials Meet to Discuss Traffic and Safety Concerns

This was the underlying message at a meeting at Sutro Elementary School Thursday night where more than 70 citizens, county officials, law enforcement and first responders heard from Nevada Department of Transportation officials.
But for a community that has seen countless accidents in past years this was not quite what most had hoped to hear.
Carson City students win scholarships from Greater Nevada Credit Union

Ninety-three students throughout northern Nevada applied for the scholarship program, which GNCU has offered for the past 15 years. Doherty will be attending University of Redlands in California, Rico will be attending Western Nevada College, and Sareem will be attending University of Nevada, Reno.

WNC hosts social gathering Friday for Journey of Hope cyclists

Friday’s free social gathering, which promotes disability awareness and community education, is open to the public and runs from 5 to 8 p.m. in front of the Dini Student Center at WNC.

WNC summer term begins June 9

At Western Nevada College students can choose from a variety of classes in the upcoming eight-week summer term. Classes begin June 9 and continue through August 2, unless otherwise noted.
More than 40 courses are scheduled for the summer, including writing, communications, art, music, theater, accounting math, and more. Over a dozen online classes are also available, providing students the flexibility of earning college credit while enjoying their summer activities.
Carson High Says Goodbye To the Class of 2014

The academic limelight shined on valedictorian Tony Xi, and the two salutatorians: Zoey Gray and Greta Strum, but the rest of the class of 2014 was sure they would not to be forgotten either.
The academics were outstanding with in the rest of the class as well, including over 30 academic presidential level recipients, and more than $2.5 million in scholarships.

DARE program to graduate more than 500 Carson City area fifth graders

The drug prevention program, coordinated by Community Prevention Officer Lisa Davis of the Carson City Sheriff's Office, is active in all elementary schools with classes taught to fifth graders.
In all about 550 fifth grades from around Carson City will graduate from the program this spring, said Davis.
Nevada Prison Preservation Society achieves nonprofit status

The first donation to NSPPS under its designation as a public charity was made this week by Carson City Assemblyman Pete Livermore.
Livermore’s legislation in 2013 set the stage for planning by state agencies on the 152-year-old prison’s future as a historic site and museum, as well as possible uses for other buildings on the property.

Brian Krolicki and Kirk Clausen from Wells Fargo, the official sponsor of the medallion program, will be joined by the Nevada 150 Commission and special guests, to strike Nevada’s third sesquicentennial silver medallion for the State’s 150th birthday celebration.
The third design, selected by elementary age students throughout Nevada, features some of the State’s most iconic landmarks including the “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas” sign, the Reno Arch and Wendover Will with the Nevada Sesquicentennial logo on the back side.
