WNC summer term begins June 9
Many college students seek to enroll in summer classes to stay on track for graduation, or learn a new skill. At Western Nevada College students can choose from a variety of classes in the upcoming eight-week summer term. Classes begin June 9 and continue through August 2, unless otherwise noted.
More than 40 courses are scheduled for the summer, including writing, communications, art, music, theater, accounting math, and more. Over a dozen online classes are also available, providing students the flexibility of earning college credit while enjoying their summer activities.

— Business 107: Business Speech Communications — In the twice-weekly classes, students focus on their speech communication skills. The class will cover effective listening and feedback methods, voice improvement, group and team interaction, how to create messages for positive and negative audiences, as well as preparation and presentation of an oral report. The class meets 5:15 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday.
— Geology 114: Geology of Lava Beds National Monument — Students are provided an experiential field trip of the Lava Beds National Monument in northeastern California, focusing on interpretation of modern and ancient geologic events. Instruction includes the basics of rock identification, landform analysis and interpretation. Classroom instruction is 7 to 10 p.m. Friday, July 11 and 18, and wraps up with a field trip to Lava Beds on July 26 and 27.
— Music 129: Piano Lower Division — Instructor John Shipley examines performance and analysis of keyboard literature from various eras. Instruction includes an introduction to keyboard technique and an application of basic music theory to piano literature. An additional course fee of $200 includes 14 half-hour private lessons. Times to be announced.
— Theater 105: Introduction to Acting I — Students will learn the fundamentals of stage acting with special emphasis on improvisation. Instructor Jeff Whitt will introduce the principles of the performing environment. Speech, vocal skills and theatrical movement will be emphasized. Class meets from 7 to 9:45 p.m. Monday and Wednesday.
