Good day Carson City, it is Friday, Oct. 5, 2018. Nothing like a cool down and fall color changes for a nice kick start to the weekend. Among today's featured events are a dodgeball tournament fundraiser for domestic violence awareness month, art showings and reception, live music, standup comedy and more.

The Floyd, Carson City’s award winning resident Pink Floyd cover band, will once again be rocking the town with its laser show and psychedelic tribute.

The concert will take place Saturday, October 13 in the Bob Boldrick Theater at the Carson City Community Center, located at 851 E. Williams Street.

Good morning Carson City and welcome to the middle of the work week. It is Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2018. Today brings the beginning of a 5-week mindful meditation series, a fascinating Capital City Arts Initiative Nevada Neighbors talk, a welcome to fall chamber event at Red's Old 395 Grill, a free concert featuring acclaimed folk singer Nate Currin at Sassafras and more.

Sassafras Electric Food Joint and The Moonshot Coup will present a free Carson City show featuring award winning singer, songwriter and international artist Nate Currin. With more than 600,000 miles driven and 800 shows performed over the last 12 years, Nate Currin is a troubadour in every sense of the word.

British singer, songwriter, folk and rock musician Al Stewart will perform two shows at the Carson Nugget in Carson City on Nov. 10.

Stewart is best known for his 1976 hit single "Year of the Cat" the title song from the platinum album of the same name. Though Year of the Cat and its 1978 platinum follow-up, Time Passages, brought Stewart his biggest worldwide commercial successes, earlier albums such as Past, Present and Future from 1973 are often seen as better examples of his intimate brand of historical folk-rock, a style to which he returned in later albums.

Popular Nevada singer/guitarist, Bill Wharton, will be performing one night only at David Walley’s 1862 Resort on Saturday, Sept. 22, from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Lake Tahoe concertgoers have the great opportunity to catch Samantha Fish Thursday night at the Crystal Bay Casino. A singer, guitarist and songwriter, Fish is on a rapid pace. She released two albums last year, “Belle of the West” and “Chills and Fever.”

HopeFest 8, a fundraiser benefitting cancer patients of Northern Nevada, returned for its eighth year Friday night at the Carson Tahoe Cancer center, but before the fundraiser had even began employees of Carson Tahoe raised $30,000 in the few months leading up to the benefit.

As your reward for making it through the first school-week of the year, you’ll find plenty of fun ways to celebrate. Hopefest8 at the Carson Tahoe Cancer Center is a free concert featuring folk/pop singer, Tyrone Wells, bringing awareness and raising funds for local patient resources. HopeFest8, an annual Carson Tahoe Health Foundation summer music concert fundraiser in support of local cancer patients, returns this Friday, Aug. 24 to Carson City.

“A connection with nature and the cosmos were always fundamental for me,” Caitlin Jemma says. “As a teenager I didn’t appreciate it as much. But in retrospect, I’m really glad I had time in nature.”

The promising young singer and songwriter was raised on a country acre of land in the hillsides outside of Virginia City.

The Sons & Daughters of Erin, are holding a benefit concert featuring Irish folk singer Seamus Kennedy on Monday, September 10 at Great Basin Brewery in Sparks.

The event will begin at 6 p.m. for those wanting to order food from the brewery menu (corned beef and cabbage will be available) and then concert will start at 8 p.m.

Tickets are $25 for non members and $20 for SADOE members and food is not included. Tickets may be purchased online through BrownPaperTickets.com or in person at Brewery in Sparks. There will be up to a $2 service fee per ticket on any credit card transaction.

The V&T Railway Commission is looking for upbeat, energetic performers to portray characters from the movie and recreate the story of “The Polar Express” aboard the historic V&T Railroad in Carson City.

Singer and song writer Mike Beck will bring Western Americana music to Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 16.

More than 40 craftsmen and artisans joined together in the heat during Greenhouse Garden Center's 15th annual "Art at the Greenhouse" event on Saturday, part of the Jazz and Beyond Music and Art Festival continuing in Carson City.

As he entered an elevator, Bobby Brooks was thrilled to be headed to a special meeting. He had taken a new career path as an entertainer that led him to Atlantic City for a two-week run of shows. The legendary Four Tops were playing in the same Bally’s casino and had seen Brooks’ show. They were so intrigued they wanted to meet him.

“I came up there all excited saying, ‘I am going to get to meet the Four Tops!’ ” said Brooks, who was unaware of the motive of the two original Four Tops members.

That elevator led to the ride of a lifetime.

Hundreds of Carsonites attended a cast call Tuesday hosted by the Carson Nugget, hoping to become extras in a new TV show "Casino Boss," that will begin filming its pilot this week.

Get ready for all things shiny, whether it be brass or chrome. You’ll find plenty of horns playing during the Jazz and Beyond Music Festival that kicks off today. Just about every event is free to the public and family friendly, so get ready for a melodic few weeks. The historic Bliss Mansion, across the street from the Governor’s Mansion, hosts the opening night Garden Party. Hot August Nights gets an early start in Virginia City with a show and shine and poker run; 400 classic cars are waxed up and ready to impress.

CARSON CITY — A new sitcom called “Casino Boss” starring comedian, movie star and Saturday Night Live alum, Joe Piscopo, is filming in the Carson Nugget Casino, located at 507 N. Carson Street. Show producers are holding a casting call for extras to appear in the pilot at Alatte inside the Nugget Tuesday, August 7 from 4-7 p.m.

The Carson Tahoe Health Foundation is excited to announce the official date for their annual fundraiser, HopeFest8, in support of local cancer patients.

As we head into the weekend, you’ll find a fair number of ways to get the party started. Happy Anniversary to Living the Good Life; they will be celebrating four years of good times with Deception rocking their outdoor stage. For something all ages, head down to McFadden Plaza for live music by Just for Fun. For those who prefer a spot on the stage, check out Open Mic night at A to Zen or karaoke at Whiskey Tavern. Grammy-nominated country singer Ty Herndon, who rose to fame as a finalist in the television show “Star Search” will perform Aug. 25 at Living the Good Life in Carson City as a part of the Last Response Memorial Fund music festival.

It’s been a long road from 1972 to now — one that has wound through valleys and over peaks and has seen, despite the challenges, Jefferson Starship emerge stronger than ever.

Carson City will experience the current incarnation of this legendary band, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees, when they take the stage for the 10th annual Concert Under the Stars, A Benefit for The Greenhouse Project, Wednesday, July 11 at Brewery Arts Center.
