The Floyd plays Carson City's Community Center Saturday, Oct. 13
The Floyd, Carson City’s award winning resident Pink Floyd cover band, will once again be rocking the town with its laser show and psychedelic tribute.
The concert will take place Saturday, October 13 in the Bob Boldrick Theater at the Carson City Community Center, located at 851 E. Williams Street.
Doors open at 7 pm, and the show will begin at 8 pm.
The Floyd began around 2007 in its first iteration, known as Eclipse, and was created by current-keyboard player Rob Lawrence.
Since that time, there has been members that have joined at left, and the name was officially changed to The Floyd about five years ago.
Currently, the band features six members, Vince Gates: Vocals, Bass, Acoustic and Electric Guitars; Curt Mitchell: Guitar, Bass and Vocals; Rob Lawrence: Keyboards; Dean Rossi: Drums and Percussion; and Lisa McCuiston: Vocals, Guitar, Bass and Keyboards.
Though it’s a six piece group, each member plays multiple instruments, and switch throughout the concert, to the surprise and approval of audiences.
The band played at the Brewery Arts Center for four consecutive years, and was successful. The only problem is, the shows sold out too quickly so many Floyd fans were left without a chance to see their favorite cover band.
This year will be the first The Floyd will play at the Carson City Community Center, which is over three times the seating capacity the Brewery Arts Theater can hold.
This is an improvement when it comes to the laser show aspect of the concert, said The Floyd singer Vince Gates, as the bigger the room, the more space there is to work with.
Playing a larger room has it’s challenges, acoustics wise, but Gates doesn’t believe there will be an issue in converting the show to a larger space since they boast a top notch sound guy.
The Floyd generally tries to play 2-3 times a year, and has played all over Carson, Reno, and California locations that are within a day’s drive. They’ve played Sacramento, Nevada City, Chico, and more.
They like to keep it local, said Gates, because each member of the group is tied to the area in some way, and there is so much prep time involved with their shows that they would need two semi trucks to carry all the gear to go on tour.
The October 13 show is all ages, and assigned-seating tickets can be purchased at https://thefloyd.yapsody.com
On the day of, if tickets are still available, can be purchased at the Community Center. Cash is encouraged.
