Carson City outdoor concert Saturday features soul, jazz stylings of Urban Renewal Project
The Brewery Arts Center presents the upbeat soul, jazz and hip-hop stylings of the Urban Renewal Project this Saturday, August 11 as part of the Levitt AMP Carson City free music series presented by The Change Companies.
With only 3 concerts left in the season, grab your family, friends and neighbors and get ready to head on down to Carson City and Brewery Arts Center’s newest community treasure.
Sponsored in part by the Mortimer & Mimi Levitt Foundation, a private family foundation that empowers communities to transform neglected public spaces into thriving destinations through the power of free, live music, the Levitt AMP Carson City Music Series presents 10 free, family-friendly concerts to the public at the Minnesota Street Stage right in the heart of the historic district in Downtown Carson City.
The series has a diverse lineup of high caliber talent spanning genres like Celtic, R&B, country, rock, Latin and Brazilian.
The Urban Renewal Project is a Los Angeles based band that uses instruments of a bygone era to create a signature sound that blurs the boundaries between soul, jazz and hip-hop. The group features a big band horn section, a singer and a rapper who perform upbeat originals and fresh interpretations of everything from jazz standards to recent hits.
They've toured nationally from New York's Rockwood Music Hall to the San Jose Jazz Summerfest, and their recordings have received airplay on tastemaking radio stations across the country, including KCRW Santa Monica and WDCB Chicago.
“URP played at the Jazz and Beyond Festival last year and were so great and different, we asked Jazz and Beyond Festival organizers if it would be OK to bring them in for Levitt AMP this year and they agreed,” said Gina Hill, executive director of the Brewery Arts Center. “And luckily it is during the Jazz and Beyond Festival so many people can just come downstairs from the Red Tango event happening from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the BAC Ballroom, have dinner and enjoy Urban Renewal Project starting at 7 p.m.”
The public is invited to bring their own picnics, blankets and lawn chairs to the concerts, which will have an open lawn and lot setting. Food trucks, libations and kid’s activities will be available at each of the shows. The Levitt AMP concert series is located at 449 West King Street at the corner of King and Minnesota. Admission is free. The show starts at 7 p.m.
