Nevada Day Weekend Finally Here

Legendary R&B singer Marvin Gaye said it. So did retired Nevada boxing official and twice elected Washoe County Judge Mills Lane. With Nevada Day finally here, it’s time to shout: Let’s Get it On.

Get a jump start on the Nevada Day weekend with Bobby Bridger. The multi talented singer/songwriter/poet/actor and playwright will perform Lakota on Thursday, October 27th at 7:30pm in the Performance Hall. Lakota is part of Bridger’s Ballad of the West Trilogy. Using Homeric verse and song, Bridger takes us to another time to tell the stories of the Mountain Men, William F. “Buffalo Bill” Cody, and the Lakota Sioux people.

Carson Station celebrates grand re-opening with wing cookoff

There were wings everywhere, of all types and flavors; the garlic parmesan seemed to be getting the best reviews from the crowd. There were four types of beer on tap (at a dollar apiece it was easily the best deal in town) and all of them were ice cold. For another dollar, one could buy a "walking taco": a small bag of Doritos, crushed and covered with meat, cheese, onions, tomatoes, lettuce and salsa, eaten right out of the bag.

Weekend Wrapup: Free events overtake Carson

Those who say that there's nothing to do in Carson City got to eat their words this weekend, as a myriad of free events overtook the capitol city. Several more low-cost and free events are planned throughout August for the public to enjoy.

Jazz! Carson City fires up with Clooney tribute, ice cream social

A tribute to Rosemary Clooney and an ice cream social with live music will kick off a month-jazz extravaganza for the 8th annual Jazz! Carson City Music Festival.

Linda Merrell will perform a jazz tribute to Rosemary Clooney on Sunday, July 31, from 2:30-3:30 p.m. at Sierra Place Senior Living, 1111 W. College Parkway in Carson City.

'Best of the Best of Broadway' ballet on the beach

The Best of the Best of Broadway will be presented as part of the Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival on July 25 at 7:30 PM. This spectacular musical and dance theater medley will be performed at the Sand Harbor Warren Trepp Amphitheater on beautiful Lake Tahoe by the Sierra Nevada Ballet and musical friends.

Musical numbers from some of the all time favorite musicals such as Show Boat, Sweet Charity, Hello Dolly and more will offer “a vivid performance under the stars for all ages and musical interests”, according to Artistic
Director, Rosine Bena.

Carson City Symphony presents "Pipes and Rails" at Artown in Reno

Moview Review: 'X Men: First Class' a hot and heavy fantasy film

I missed a couple of the "X Man" interations so I can't offer much in the way of comparisons, but world opening audience size was down from the last version. That said, 'X Man: First Class," now screening at the Fandango Galaxy multiplex in Carson City, is a film of its times, a melange of fast cuts, amazing technology which reveals its comic-book birthright with fantasy and some fact.

Carson City Symphony presents "Railroad Tracks"

The beautiful back lawn of the Governor's Mansion is the site of the Carson City Symphony's twenty-seventh annual "Pops Party" concert on Sunday, June 12, 2011, at 3:00 p.m. The program, "Railroad Tracks," features the Carson City Symphony, Carson Chamber Singers, Strings in the Schools youth orchestra, and guest singer Olivia Hakel. Bye Bye Birdie at the Brewery Arts Center

The Brewery Arts Center Stage Kids presents the captivating musical 'Bye Bye Birdie' which tells the story of a rock and roll singer about to be inducted into the army. KARSON KRUZERS YARD SALE

The Karson Kruzers, along with friends of RAYNA DONOHO-KING, will be holding a yard sale with all proceeds from the sale going to Rayna's family to help with her final expenses.

Rayna, 21, was killed in an auto accident Friday, March 18th, on Hwy 50 East. When Rayna died her family was still trying to cope with the death of her Grandfather, W. Ray King, who was killed just eight weeks prior in a freak accident in Redding, CA.

Sway and Swirl Holiday Dance at Sierra Place

The event of the season will be our Holiday Dance at Sierra Place. Live music will be provided by local jazz singer, Linda Merrell and her band. Linda has a sultry voice which is beautifully suited for the songs of the 1940's.

Richard Elloyan, a colorful and renowned country western singer from Dayton will be performing his famous songs of Nevada's stories. Richard's songs are written through the poetry of his experiences of growing up in Virginia City, and reflect his love of Nevada and its cowboy heritage. 2nd Annual Concert Under the Stars, Carson City Greenhouse Project Benefit

The summer heats up with the 2nd annual “Concert Under the Stars” July 14th behind Adele’s Restaurant and Lounge in Carson City. Proceeds benefit Carson City’s Greenhouse Project. “Sons of Champlin” will headline the event. Led by former Chicago singer and band member Bill Champlin, the Sons are one of the pioneering bay area bands from the 1960s music scene and continue to rock audiences today. Local band Southpaw Freddie will open the show.
