Carson City Sheriff's arrest log: Man busted for meth, heroin possession

A 25 year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday night at 8:56 p.m. in the 1200 block of Woodside Drive for felony possession of multiple controlled substances, including methamphetamine and heroin, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy said.

Pioneer High School students visit RockSport in Reno

Students from Pioneer High School in Carson City traveled to RockSport, an indoor rock climbing gym in Reno to practice skills beyond the classroom. It was a partnership established five years ago to assist PHS students with physical education options and provide motivational events to increase attendance and academic achievement.

Rock Steady Boxing names Jules Radow February Boxer of the Month

Jules Radow of Carson City has been selected posthumously as Boxer of the Month for February at Rock Steady Boxing Northern Nevada (RSBNN), an athletic program for individuals battling Parkinson's Disease and Parkinson's-like symptoms, Certified Rock Steady Boxing Trainer and Tazmanian Boxing Club owner Francisco Rodriguez said.

A powerful winter storm associated with a strong atmospheric river will bring gusty winds and very heavy precipitation to the Carson City, Carson Valley and Dayton areas and deep snow to the upper Sierra tonight through late Monday, according to the National Weather Service.

National Weather Service: Flood watch again goes up Monday for Carson City region

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for Carson City, Carson Valley, the greater Reno area and Virginia City effective Monday afternoon through Tuesday morning.

Highway 50 between Carson City and Lake Tahoe now open; Highway 50 west of South Tahoe also opens

UPDATE 12:40AM: Road crews from California and Nevada announced late Tuesday that both sections of Highway 50 are open after rock and mud slides closed parts of the highway down last week. The latest is Highway 50 west of South Lake Tahoe which is now open, according to CalTrans. The road reopened at 10:32 p.m. Tuesday night, where it had been closed from Pollock Pines to Strawberry due to multiple mudslides.

Highway 50 connecting Carson City to Stateline and south shore Lake Tahoe has reopened as of Tuesday night. The Nevada Department of Transportation announced the highway has open lanes in each direction north of the Cave Rock tunnel.

U.S. 50 near Cave Rock Update

While there is no estimated time of reopening the roadway, the Nevada Department of Transportation continues to make progress removing monolithic-size boulders which fell onto U.S. 50 north of the Cave Rock area of Lake Tahoe.

Highway 50 remains closed at Cave Rock, Kyburz; Route between North and South Tahoe opens

Travelers hoping to get to Tahoe have some routes to take. Caltrans has opened State Route 89 along the west shore of Lake Tahoe, enabling motorists to travel between the north and south end of the lake without having a multi-hour detour.

Highway 50 at Logan Creek near Cave Rock on the east shore of Lake Tahoe remains closed due to an unstable hillside above the road. Motorists attempting to get to south shore Lake Tahoe can take State Route 207 over Kingsbury Grade.

Firefighting Hotshot crew to host 9th annual Silver State Vertical Drop Ski Competition

The Silver State Vertical Drop is an annual ski competition and community fundraising event put on by the Silver State Hotshots, a Carson City-based wildfire suppression crew. Justin Cutler, the current captain of the Silver State Hotshots, began the event in 2008 and it has taken place each year, this year being the 9th consecutive.

Senator Square: Tomorrow’s attorneys begin their ‘practice’ at Carson High School


Want to be a lawyer for a day? At CHS, with Mock Trial, it is possible. Mock Trial is Law and Order set in a simulated trial environment in a real courthouse with a real judge. The Carson High School Mock Trial team will meet professional attorneys and students around the state to compete Feb. 17 in Reno.

NDOT temporarily closes Highway 50 near Cave Rock at Tahoe for safety reasons

For safety, the Nevada Department of Transportation has temporarily closed U.S. 50 in the Cave Rock area of Lake Tahoe following five large boulders which have fallen onto the roadway.

Large boulder slides into eastbound Highway 50 at Tahoe near same rockslide area as Monday

Two boulders came down onto Highway 50 in the Logan Creek area of Lake Tahoe again on Tuesday, close to the same exact area as Monday's large boulder slide.

No vehicles were involved and there were no injuries. The first one happened earlier this morning and was removed. The second boulder dropped into the road shortly before noon. According to the Nevada Highway Patrol as of 12:22 p.m., the eastbound lane is blocked. Traffic is being routed using the westbound lane.

Multiple trails, Curry at Rhodes Street in Carson City closed due to flooding

Carson City Public Works crews are mitigating flood prone areas Tuesday and will address concerns accordingly. The storm drain system is operating at capacity, resulting in water in roadways and localized intersection flooding. When the storm drains are at maximum capacity water can be observed flowing outwardly.

This is a normal response. All personnel are at their full ability assisting citizens.

What it means to be Rock Steady in Carson City

There is something about Francisco Rodriguez that screams tenacity.

Crews work to remove vehicle-sized boulder that slid onto Highway 50 near Lake Tahoe

UPDATE 1:40PM: The Nevada Department of Transportation has removed the large boulder that fell this morning, blocking one eastbound lane of U.S. 50 in Lake Tahoe. No vehicles were involved in the slide, and no injuries were reported.
