Ready for the weekend, Carson City? The weather should hold up on Saturday, but no promises on Sunday. Hit the slopes if you are so inclined, several Tahoe resorts have opened for the season. Runners should head out to Washoe Lake State Park for the first of the Be Bold, Run in the Cold series sponsored by Ascent Runs. If you prefer something warmer, head to Crossroads Lounge for their Grand Re-opening. It’s under new ownership and is sure to have something to keep you toasty.

Division of Child and Family Services Holds Foster/Adoptive Parent Training in Carson City Beginning December 5

Each day runs from 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Training sessions will be held at Carson-Tahoe Regional Medical Center, Valley View Room, 3rd Floor, at 1600 Medical Parkway, Carson City, NV 89703 (lunch and snacks will be provided, courtesy of Carson-Tahoe Regional Medical Center).

Two men were arrested on felony charges Saturday after each gave officers false identification to avoid being arrested, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Carson City via the Brewery Arts Center is now in the running to bring a 10-week live music series to Carson City during the Summer of 2016.

Sponsored by Levitt Pavilions, the national nonprofit behind the largest free concert series in America, the Brewery Arts Center hopes to qualify as one of the 15 winning organizations competing in the Levitt AMP Carson City Grant Awards.

Light after Dark Walk/Run to raise awareness for domestic violence and sexual assault

Light after Dark 5K/10K Walk/Run is to help raise awareness for domestic violence and sexual assault by lighting the way. Bringing light to domestic violence and sexual assault is our goal for the Light after Dark Walk/Run. We want victims and survivors to know that there is LIGHT AFTER DARK.

The race is Saturday, Oct. 17th at 6:00pm at Riverview Park in Carson City. This year’s event is being dedicated in memory of Kirsten Krasovec, a Carson City woman whose life was taken at the hands of domestic violence.

Free health clinic this weekend in Yerington and Oct. 16-18 in Carson City

Remote Area Medical, an organization dedicated to providing free, quality health care services, will host free pop-up clinics during the next two weekends for adults and children in Lyon County and Carson City.

There are no eligibility requirements and identification isn't necessary. Services are provided on a first come basis. The first pop-up clinic will be this weekend in Yerington, Oct. 9-11, and the second will be in Carson City the following weekend, Oct. 16-18.

Carson City sheriff’s arrest log: Two jailed in separate restraining order violations

A 35-year-old Carson City man was booked into jail Monday on misdemeanor suspicion of two counts violation of a temporary protection order and being an ex-felon failing to register, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Navy sailors on deck Saturday for volunteer work at historic Nevada State Prison

Glen Whorton, president of the Nevada State Prison Preservation Society, welcomed 13 sailors from Carrier Air Wing Three of Virginia Beach, VA to the Nevada State Prison on Saturday. The crew performs volunteer work while training at the Naval Air Station in Fallon.

Nevada State Prison listed in National Register of Historic Places

The Nevada State Prison in Carson City is the latest addition to the National Register of Historic Places, with its listing Friday by the National Park Service. The National Register is the nation’s official list of properties worthy of preservation.

Race Saturday to traverse historic Flume Trail above Lake Tahoe

The second annual Lake Tahoe Flume Trail Fall Classic Half Marathon, a point-to-point race from Spooner State Park to Tunnel Creek Station, will be Saturday.

“You’ll have spectacular views,” said organizer Kevin Bigley, owner of Ascent Physical Therapy. “It’s a world-famous trail for a reason.”
