Carson City crime log: Two inmates face felony battery charges following fight
Two Carson City jail inmates each face felony charges of battery by a prisoner following a fight Thursday at the detention facility, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
Booked at 12:40 p.m. on two felony counts each of battery by a prisoner were Alfredo Eduardo Valdez, 23, of Reno, and Michael Troy Kever, 52, of Carson City.
A review of video showed both men involved in a confrontation in the day room area of the jail, which started with a cup of liquid slapped out of a hand, followed by spitting and then physical contact where each hit each other with closed fists. Bail: $40,000.
In other arrests:
— A 34-year-old Gardnerville woman, Mindy Jean Newberg-Frontino, was booked into Carson City jail Thursday, 1 p.m. on the following felony warrant charges: One count possession of false identifying information for credit theft, four counts obtaining money by false pretenses, six counts burglary, one count attempted obtaining money by false pretenses.
The warrant was issued Nov. 15, 2017 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $25,000.
— A 41-year-old Long Beach, Calif., man, David Valenzula, was arrested early Friday morning in the area of Eastgate Siding and Flint Drive for suspicion of felony possession of a controlled substance and four misdemeanors: possession of drug paraphernalia, convicted person failing to register, suspended license, no proof of insurance, and expired registration.
According to the arrest report, a deputy was on patrol in the area of Eastgate Siding and Flint Drive and observed a vehicle driving south near a salvage yard where there has been a number of burglaries.
The driver stopped and the deputy spoke with the man, who said he did not have a valid license, no insurance and he was recently arrested a few days prior in Carson City. The registration on the vehicle was expired.
The deputy conducted a criminal check on the man and was advised of an extensive history involving drugs, theft crimes and possession of stolen property.
A deputy used a canine drug detection dog to do an exterior sniff of the vehicle. The dog alerted positive. Underneath a false floor in the center console was a hypodermic device with three CCs of heroin. The man was arrested. Bail: $5,315.
— A 33-year-old Reno man was arrested Thursday, 1:21 p.m., in the 3200 block of Market Street for misdemeanor trespassing.
According to the arrest report, the man had been inside Walmart after being trespassed from Walmart nationwide. Bail: $242.
— A 49-year-old Carson City man was arrested at 7:14 p.m. Thursday in the 200 block of West Caroline Street for violation of a stalking order.
According to the arrest report, a female called the sheriff’s office and stated the man was in violation of an active protection order.
The man initially denied but then later admitted he had been at a food kitchen where the woman was. Bail: $3,137.
— A 57-year-old Carson City man was arrested Thursday, 8:59 a.m. in the 1600 block of Medical Parkway for misdemeanor disorderly conduct.
According to the arrest report, the man was yelling and screaming at people walking into Carson Tahoe Hospital. He was told several times by Carson City deputies to stop. He continued and refused to leave. Bail: $242.
