Concert lineup announced for 2018 Levitt AMP Carson City Music Series

The countdown to an unforgettable season of free concerts under the stars in Carson City is underway with Thursday's announcement of the 2018 Levitt AMP Carson City Music Series lineup of artists who will perform at the Brewery Arts Center’s Minnesota Street Stage each Saturday through summer.

Sponsored in part by the Mortimer & Mimi Levitt Foundation, a national funder of creative place making that empowers communities to inject new life into underused public spaces through free, outdoor concerts, the Levitt AMP Carson City Music Series will present 10 free, family-friendly concerts to the public this summer at the Minnesota Street Stage. The series will feature a diverse lineup of high caliber talent spanning genres like reggae, soul/pop and Celtic rock. These free Saturday concerts begin at 7 p.m. and run from June 23 to August 25.

Kicking off the series on June 23 is The Original Wailers featuring Al Anderson, whose stunning lead work on such classics as No Woman, No Cry, & Three O’clock Road Block, first alerted rock fans to the Wailer’s music.

Andersons’ musical achievements with Bob Marley & The Wailers include the platinum award winning albums, ‘Live at the Lyceum’, ‘Babylon by Bus’ and ten times platinum album ‘Legend’. The Original Wailers received their own Grammy nomination in 2013 for their album ‘Miracle’ making it Andersons’ second Grammy Nomination.

Also scheduled to perform are The Angry Brians on June 30, The Angry Brians define Celtic rock at its best. Their original songs and reinvented classics will burrow deep into your subconscious, leaving lasting impressions of their music and lyrics.

With their own style of Celtic Fusion, these talented musicians command a level of energy unparalleled to those within the genre; on July 7 a singer/songwriter double header with Austin pop chameleon Ian Jones and local phenom Athena McIntyre.

New Jersey artists Remember Jones on July 14, a one-of-a-kind soul/pop singer, storyteller and bandleader with a throwback vibe and authentic energy. Collaboratively supported by a large ensemble of musicians (featuring female backing vocalists, a horn section, and a six-piece rhythm section), the band has played to countless packed and sold-out ballrooms, clubs and theaters throughout the country; SambaDá on June 21, Dubbed the West Coast’s hottest Brazilian band by promoters, journalists and fans, SambaDá musically unites the Americas.

Based in the rich musical traditions of Brazil, SambaDá also references salsa and cumbia, and blends them playfully with funk and reggae beats; Aileen Quinn and the Leapin’ Lizards band playing Rockabilly on July 28, Frobeck on August 4, Frobeck is high-octane funk, soul and rock with horns, organ, and groove wrapped up in thick, juicy vocal harmonies; Urban Renewal Project on August 11, one of the world’s best slide guitarists, Dennis Johnson and the Mississippi Ramblers on August 18 and La Chamba on August 25, La Chamba means to put in work. Peruvian Chicha's deep Amazonian groove and psychedelic feel instantly inspired them to create a unique blend of the sound.

The public is invited to bring their own picnics, blankets and lawn chairs to the concerts, which will have an open lawn/parking lot setting. There will be food trucks, bars with alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, and plenty of music and activities for all. The Levitt AMP concert series is located at 511 West King Street at the corner of Minnesota Street and King Street. Admission is free.

About The Brewery Arts Center
Founded in 1975, by a group of artists yearning for a space of their own, these pioneers had a clear vision and spearheaded a grassroots effort and raised $300,000 to purchase the Historic Carson Brewing Building and turn it into a community gathering space for artists. They then proceeded to build an annex for a gallery, art classroom, a black box theater and the Brewery Arts Center (BAC) a Nevada non-profit organization was born. In 2000, the organization purchased the St. Teresa Catholic Church building and converted it into a 250 seat Performance hall and in 2015 was able to close the road to traffic in between the two buildings to create a two city block arts campus complete with facilities for visual arts, theatrical arts, dance and music, and outdoor art to include a Harmony Sculpture Park, outreach programs, two murals, rotating sculptures and in the summer months, an outdoor amphitheater.

The organization is privately funded and the facility provides a home for 17 other non-profit organizations and several dozen visual artists use the various art spaces on every day of the week.
