Levitt AMP Carson City concert Saturday features La Misa Negra, Drinking with Clowns
The Brewery Arts Center continues an unforgettable season of free concerts under the stars in Carson City with Saturday's headlining event featuring the high-energy, Afro-Colombian dance music of La Misa Negra and opening act Drinking with Clowns bringing their original Latin and funk sound.
Having started out strong with Big Bad VooDoo Daddy, and continued with great music from The Novelists, Athena McIntyre, Guitar Shorty, Reno Indie Artist Grace Hayes, Gene Evaro Jr. and Silver, it’s time again to grab your family, friends and neighbors and get ready to head on down to Brewery Arts Center, Carson City’s community treasure, to join with a night of music and dance by La Misa Negra and Drinking with Clowns.
Sponsored in part by the Mortimer & Mimi Levitt Foundation, a private family foundation that empowers communities to transform neglected public spaces into thriving destinations through the power of free, live music, the Levitt AMP CARSON CITY Music Series presents 10 free, family-friendly concerts to the public currently at Minnesota Street Stage.
The series still has a diverse lineup of high caliber talent left to present spanning genres like reggae, southern rock, cumbia, bluegrass and much more.
This week’s show begins at 7pm on Saturday, July 22. First, we will enjoy Reno favorites, Drinking with Clowns who bring a unique blend of Latin sound and funky rhythms that will send you grooving into the ecstasy of dance.
From the thumping sounds of Afro-American drums in the streets of South America to the smooth, funky and soulful beats of the North American urban landscape, Drinking With Clowns takes you on a musical journey every time they step into the stage.
Headlining Saturday night is La Misa Negra. La Misa Negra is an 8-piece band from Oakland, California that plays a unique blend of 1950's and 60's style cumbia and high-energy, Afro-Colombian dance music.
Rounding out July is Nashville artists’ Southern Drawl Band on July 29, presenting Southern Rockin' Country music with a twist of lime distilled in the backwoods of Tennessee.
Fresh off Coachella, psychedelic trio Thee Commons will perform on Aug. 5. Reggae royalty Marla Brown will perform Aug. 12. Five-piece electric newgrass group Dusty Green Bones will take the stage on Aug. 26 with the Cherry Pickers opening and Irish Rockers and Young Dubliners will end the series on Sept. 2.
The public is invited to bring their own picnics, blankets and lawn chairs to the concerts, which will have an open lawn and lot setting. Food trucks, libations and kid’s activities will be available at each of the shows. Pets on leash are welcomed as well. The Levitt AMP concert series is located at 449 West King Street at the corner of King and Minnesota. Admission is free.
