Levitt AMP Carson City concert Saturday features blues legend Guitar Shorty, Grace Hayes
The Brewery Arts Center continues its unforgettable season of free concerts under the stars in Carson City this Saturday with headliner blues legend Guitar Shorty and opening act Reno Indie artist Grace Hayes.
Grab your family, friends and neighbors and get ready to head on down to Carson City and Brewery Arts Center’s newest community treasure The Levitt AMP Carson City summer concert series, which opened strong 2 weeks ago with Big Bad VooDoo Daddy and continued last week with The Novelists and Athena McIntyre.
Sponsored in part by the Mortimer and Mimi Levitt Foundation, a private family foundation that empowers communities to transform neglected public spaces into thriving destinations through the power of free, live music, the Levitt AMP Carson City Music Series presents 10 free, family-friendly concerts to the public currently at Minnesota Street Stage.
With 8 more concerts to go, the series still has a diverse lineup of high caliber talent to present spanning genres like Reggae, Southern Rock, Cumbia, Celtic, Bluegrass and much more.
This week’s show begins at 7pm on Saturday, July 8. First, we present the Reno Indie artist Grace Hayes. Grace Hayes is an independent Nevadan performing artist, actress, singer/songwriter, pianist/ukelelist, spoken word poet & comedian. She specializes in the satirical, exudes eccentricity, and oozes all things obscure.
Headlining Saturday night is Guitar Shorty. A giant in the blues world who is credited with influencing both Jimi Hendrix and Buddy Guy, Guitar Shorty has been electrifying audiences for five decades with his supercharged live shows and his incendiary recordings.
The diverse line up continues on Saturday, July 15 with Gene Evaro, Jr. who presents with the folk magic of Paul Simon, to the crazy funk fashion of Sly & The Family Stone, to the lyrical poetry of Jim Morrison, Gene’s old-soul youthful songs speak for his generation through his prolific songwriting.
La Misa Negra will take the stage July 22. La Misa Negra is an 8-piece band from Oakland, California that plays a unique blend of 1950's and 60's style cumbia and high-energy, Afro-Colombian dance music. Yaples will also be offering Cumbia classes prior to La Misa Negra. Rounding out July is Nashville artists’ Southern Drawl Band on July 29, a Southern Rockin' Country music with a twist of lime distilled in the backwoods of Tennessee.
Fresh off Coachella, psychedelic cumbia-punk trio Thee Commons will perform on Aug. 5. Reggae royalty Marla Brown will perform Aug. 12, five piece electric newgrass group Dusty Green Bones will take the stage on Aug. 26 with the Cherry Pickers opening and Irish Rockers, Young Dubliners will end the series on Sept. 2.
The public is invited to bring their own picnics, blankets and lawn chairs to the concerts, which will have an open lawn and lot setting. Food trucks, libations and kids activities will be available at each of the shows. Pets on leash are welcomed as well. The Levitt AMP concert series is located at 449 West King Street at the corner of King and Minnesota. Admission is free.
