Walking back to my car after shooting the full moon late Friday afternoon, a red tail hawk roosted on a power pole directly in front of me. I think the bird of prey was more curious about the camera than me.

On a recent visit to Oregon, I spent three days harvesting produce from our friends’ garden before temperatures could kill cold-sensitive crops. We harvested bushels of tomatoes, four kinds of peppers including "Jimmy Nardellos" and jalapeños, lemon cucumbers, "Malibu" green beans, artichokes, golden raspberries, basil and figs.

I have long found it impossible to decide which Carson City event is my favorite: forever waffling between Nevada Day and the Taste of Downtown. Seeing as the annual parade is still months away, I’m going to side with ‘The Taste’ purely for its timeliness. With over forty local eateries participating, multiple raffles at downtown shops, and seven bands rocking every corner of the event, it’s practically impossible to have a bad time. CARSON CITY — Turn lane closures and lane reductions will take place next week on U.S. 395 at Airport Road in the Carson Valley as part of an ongoing Nevada Department of Transportation project to install a traffic signal and improve other highway intersections.

Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies were called Monday afternoon to a single vehicle rollover on South Curry behind the railroad museum.

Crews stop forward progress, knock down flames of brush fire at Duck Hill

UPDATE: 02:42PM: Carson City Fire Department has handed over command of the brushfire along the west side of Duck Hill just above Interstate 580 to Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District. Carson City fire crews remain on scene to assist in containment and mop up of the fire.
Flames have been knocked down and crews were dousing the area with water and retardant foam.
Homes in the Duck Hill Estates area were immediately threatened; however, no structures were damaged and crews quickly stopped the fire's forward progress.
The base of a power line pole appears to have been partially burned by the fire.
Cause of the fire and the acreage burned are unknown at this time. The fire appears to have been kept to a minimum burn area and is no longer threatening.
