Carson City and Lake Tahoe area road report for week of Oct. 24-30

Here is the Carson City area road report for the week of Oct. 24-30, 2016. This is the final week of work on the Downtown Corridor Improvement Project along Carson Street. The following streets will be impacted:

— Carson Street will be one lane in each direction with lane shifts through the week during daytime hours.

— Sunday night through Wednesday night starting at 8 p.m., there will be lane shifts for final striping.

— At this time, all side streets should be open.

Two vehicle crash ties up traffic at Fifth and Curry streets

One person was injured in a two-vehicle crash that happened this afternoon near the intersection of Curry and Fifth streets in Carson City.

The vehicles involved are a Jeep Patriot and a Nissan Pathfinder. The crash was reported at around 3:20 p.m. A female was injured and taken by ground ambulance to the hospital, said Carson City Sheriff's Office Sgt. Scott McDaniel.

Hello fellow anglers, I can tell you where there will be plenty of fish this weekend. On Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 1-2, is the Kokanee Salmon festival at Taylor Creek located on Highway 89, a half mile north of Camp Richardson on the south end of Lake Tahoe.

Carson City emergency crews called to crash with injuries at Fifth and Stewart streets

UPDATE 6:54PM: Two people were flown by Care Flight and one person was taken by ground ambulance in the wreck that happened early this evening at the intersection of Stewart and Fifth Street, according to Carson City Fire Chief Bob Schreihans. Their conditions are unknown at this time.

A 26-year-old Carson City man was arrested early Sunday on suspicion of domestic battery, a Carson City sheriff's deputy said. According to the arrest report, officers were called to a residence for a report of a fight in progress involving multiple people.

Carson City memorializes Deputy Howell, fallen capital city officers with permanent wreath

A brief ceremony was held Monday at the Carson City Sheriff's Office building to honor Deputy Carl Howell who died in the line of duty while responding to a domestic violence call a year ago on this date, August 15, 2015.

The ceremony was attended by Howell's family members, sheriff's office staff and personnel, the Carson City Fire Department and city leaders.

2016 Polar Express holiday train tickets aboard the V&T available beginning Aug. 19

Tickets for the Virginia & Truckee Railroad’s wildly popular holiday adventure to the North Pole via The Polar Express train will go on sale starting Friday, Aug. 19 at 6 a.m.

Power outage affects 10,000 NV energy customers between Carson City, Douglas County

UPDATE 11:56 AM: Some NV Energy customers say they remain without power late this morning after NV Energy reports the majority of the power has been restored. As of 11:57 a.m. the utility says only 2 customers are without power. Messages to Carson Now from customers say many remain without power.

UPDATE: 11:05AM: Traffic lights are now working along Carson and Stewart streets, Roop and Little streets, Fairview and Roop Street, and Colorado and Roop, according to Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies directing traffic.

UPDATE 10:21AM: NV Energy reports power being restored to a large swath of customers in Douglas County. As of 10:20 a.m., 1,548 customers were without power there. In Carson City, nearly 4,500 customers remain without power.

NV Energy reports a widespread power outage Sunday morning that runs from Carson City south into Douglas County, along mostly the Carson Street to Highway 395 corridor affecting neighborhoods throughout town.
