Carson City sheriff: Semi hits power pole causing explosion at Washington and Valley streets
Carson City sheriff's deputies and the fire department were called to an explosion Tuesday night in the area of Washington and Valley streets that was caused by a commercial vehicle hitting a power pole.
The explosion happened at around 10:15 p.m. Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong who arrived on scene reports the accident involved a semi-tractor trailer that hit a power pole which caused the explosion and a small fire. No injuries were reported.
A Carson City Fire Department battalion chief reports at 10:22 p.m. the electrical fire is mostly out, but the power pole was "completely sheered off its base."
Sheriff Furlong said the explosion appears to have happened at the base of the pole where there are circuits underneath.
NV Energy is responding to the scene. Traffic is being diverted away from Washington and Valley streets. Motorists should avoid the area.
