South Lake Tahoe Wooden Boat Classic to celebrate the 1950s and fins July 24-25
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Thu, 07/16/2015 - 3:44pmThe South Tahoe Wooden Boat Classic returns to the Tahoe Keys Marina this month for the 8th year with a celebration of the '50s, big fins and Elvis.
The main July 24-25 event will highlight boats manufactured in the 1950s and any boats with fins, which are not exclusive to the 1950s as many first generation fiberglass boats as well as some metal race boats had fins. These beauties will be joined by all classic, vintage or antique boats.
NNDA regional delegation, Carson City manager to join Sandoval on European trade mission

Brian Sandoval, the Governor’s Office of Economic Development and a sub delegation from the Sierra region, including Carson City manager Nick Marano, on an upcoming trade mission to England, Ireland, Germany and Poland.
The trip, set to begin Monday, July 20, is focused on building international awareness of the economic opportunities in Nevada and creating synergies between the Silver State and European countries.

Grocery Outlet partners with Dayton Food Pantry and community to fight hunger
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Tue, 06/30/2015 - 1:42pmGrocery Outlet has launched its 5th Annual Independence From Hunger Food Drive today to donate food throughout July, traditionally a time when food agencies experience the greatest need, to serve children who are off from school during the summer.
The Carson City Grocery Outlet has teamed up with Dayton Food Pantry and will be collecting donations throughout the entire month of July that will go directly to that partner.
"We are happy to help out the Dayton Food Pantry in any way we can," said Dave Cox, the Carson City store owner-operator.
Ceremony opens Carson City Motor Officer Training Challenge, downtown festival
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Sat, 06/27/2015 - 9:42amMotorcycle patrol riders from Nevada and California were welcomed by dignitaries Saturday for the opening of the 12th Annual Extreme Motor Officer Training Challenge in downtown Carson City.
The event brings dozens of law enforcement officers to Carson City annually to compete in team riding and obstacle courses along Carson Street. Saturday's events will include 2 man tethered riding, 4 man team relay, slow ride, an obstacle course and last man standing.

Battleborn Brews, Bikes, and Bubbly features the Extreme Motor Officer Training Challenge, vendors, a brewfest, moustache competition and more. The Karson Kruzers are hosting their annual car show at Fuji Park, but will be making their way downtown after it’s over, so there will be plenty of cool cars to admire. Mojo Green takes the stage at 7 p.m. and you can head into the Carson Cigar Company to enjoy Reno’s newest Pink Floyd Tribute Band, Scarlett Moon at 9 p.m.

- Karson Krusers’ Run Whatcha Brung Car Show at Fuji Park (registration 7am-9am; show and vendors until 6pm; parade to downtown 6pm)

I know that the Taste of Downtown is hard to beat, but the new Battleborn Brews, Bikes, and Bubbly has thrown its hat in the ring. Live music, vendors, competitions that test motorcycle driving skill and moustache growing ability. The brewfest and tasting is tomorrow night, but the fun will begin today at noon. Shine up your hot rod, the Karson Kruzers’ Run Whatcha Brung Show hits Fuji Park tomorrow, but you can register and show off your ride tonight in the Carson Nugget Parking Lot.

Davidson at 6,200 feet elevation, the “kaboom” rocks the old 1850s historic mining community as the fireworks soar high above the town and Six Mile Canyon, making it visible from nearly anywhere in town.

The official opening reception is Friday at 5 p.m. Or enjoy the art at the Nevada Arts Council, inside the BRIC building on Proctor, inside the Sierra Room of the Community Center, or in the two galleries at the Brewery Arts Center.

The report, which tracked all transactions through 2014, concluded that the Lake Tahoe-based agency had $939,547,242 in residential sales volume last year, making it the top producing agency in the region, and number 183 in the nation overall. The figure was an increase from 2013, which saw a volume of $865,000,000.

Sign erected and destroyed in Silver City
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Wed, 05/13/2015 - 8:58amEarly in the week of May 3, persons unknown erected a sign near the junction of Main Street, Silver City (Highway 342), with the Truck Route (Highway 341) blaming Comstock Mining Inc., the Storey County Commissioners and the Nevada Department of Transportation for the closure of the highway (342) between Silver City and Gold Hill. Before dawn of the third day afterward, the sign had been obliterated and removed by a second party of persons unknown.
