Embracing the area's design and manufacturing community, the Capital City Arts Initiative's [CCAI] exhibition, Industrial Art, is now at the Carson City Library. The show, previously at the CCAI Courthouse Gallery, will be available at the Library through November 19.

The Library will host a public reception for Industrial Art on Friday, October 2, 3:30-5pm in honor of Manufacturer's Month [October]. The Library’s MT1 training room and the Digitorium will also feature students’ manufacturing activities during the open house event.

NDOT: Section of State Route 342 temporarily closed for bypass construction

A section of State Route 342 south of Gold Hill will temporarily be closed beginning Tuesday through Nov. 12 for finishing construction of a Comstock Mining Inc. project to realign the road, according to the Nevada Department of Transportation.

Comstock Mining Receives Excellence in Mine Reclamation Award

Carson City veterinary raises cash to equip sheriff’s canine team with bullet-proof vests

Carson City sheriff’s deputies routinely wear life protective clothing in the line of duty. Now, five four-paw members of Carson City’s Sheriff’s canine team have added safety too, thanks to a local veterinary hospital.

The dogs were outfitted recently with bullet and knife-protected, strike-rated vests as part of a fundraising effort by Sierra Veterinary Hospital on Saliman Road in Carson City.

Highway 50 livestock fencing project begins

The Nevada Department of Transportation will enhance traffic safety with a new project that began Monday by installing livestock fencing on sections of Highway 50 in Silver Springs.

The project will fence approximately four and a half miles of U.S. 50 between Boyer Lane and Pinto Street and from Onyx Street to the U.S. 95 Alternate intersection in Silver Springs. The four-strand, smooth wire fencing will stand four feet high to help prevent wild horses and cattle from entering the highway.

United Parcel Service, Inc., 575 U.S. ___ (2015), the Court evaluated the requirements for bringing a disparate (discrimination) treatment claim under the Pregnancy Discrimination Act.

Column: Not all 1099-MISC forms are correct

Recently a client brought in an IRS Notice that said she owed $2,834 because of a 2013 form 1099-MISC that showed she had income of $14,805. It took some extra research but we sent a letter to IRS that said she owed nothing because the form was issued in error.
