Nevada's Big Give annual event Thursday

The fifth annual Nevada's Big Give charity drive will be held statewide on Thursday, March 10.

The Big Give is an online donation drive designed to raise as much money as possible in a 24-hour period for various statewide and local charities.

Global Women’s Health experts visit Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center

On Tuesday, a group of women’s health experts from around the world visited Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center as part of the U.S. Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP). Participants from Kiribati, Nepal, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Peru, Saudi Arabia and Uzbekistan visited with Carson Tahoe Health physicians, nurses and staff to specifically learn more about the hospital’s approach to delivering superior healthcare to women.

REMSA Names Dean Dow New President and CEO

REMSA, the Regional Emergency Medical Services Authority, has announced that Dean Dow has been named president and CEO of the organization. He replaces Jim Gubbels, who has retired from the organization.

“We thank Jim for his many years of service to REMSA and the community, and wish him well as he leaves the organization,” said Jim Begbie, chair of the REMSA Board of Directors. “REMSA is in excellent hands with Dean’s vast experience and leadership abilities.”

The Board of Directors named Dow as the interim president and CEO for REMSA in January.

Carson City veterans group attracting more stakeholders

Participation in Carson City's local Green Zone Initiative push has more than doubled since the first meeting called together by Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong on Feb. 10.

More than two dozen people attended Wednesday's meeting of the Carson City Veterans Community Council (CCVCC), the local branch of the state of Nevada's Green Zone Initiative, a program introduced by the Governor's Interagency Council on Veterans Affairs.

Local Non-Profit Making a Difference, One Meal at a Time

Food For Thought, Inc. in Carson City published its annual Holiday Letter and announced its 2014/2015 distribution numbers. During the 2014/2015 school year, Food For Thought’s Backpack Program distributed 13,509 bags of food that contained 54,036 meals to food insecure elementary, middle and high school children in Carson City. In the summer of 2015, the program provided free lunches to children at two locations within Carson City. The innovative 2015 Summer Program served over 4,500 meals.

Today we’re thankful that the widely despised Commerce Tax is moving toward a Nevada voter referendum.

Acting for the concerned citizens of RIP Commerce Tax, Inc., Ron filed a referendum petition on that tax in October. Tax-hike advocates brought a meritless law suit seeking to deny you a vote on it. RIP filed its answer, and a hearing on the case will be held 9 AM Wednesday, December 2 at Carson City’s court house. After defeating this suit, we’ll have legions of folks gathering signatures to put it to a vote next November.

Bank of America Charitable Foundation gives Community Counseling Center $5,000 grant

The Bank of America Charitable Foundation Inc granted $5,000 to the Community Counseling Center in Carson City to help improve the quality of life in our community.

The Center wrote a request for support in its work in the jail as a member of the Forensic Assessment Treatment Team which aids in providing substance abuse evaluations and treatment for people in custody. The Center also provides seven recovery groups in the Carson City jail.
