It’s a blast from the past weekend. Get started with some history at the Dangberg Home Historic Ranch with the Naughty Tea Mistresses. A walking tour of our haunted past begins at the corner of Third and Curry with the Downtown Ghost Walk. Celebrate Prohibition-style at the Brewery Arts Center: the annual Speakeasy Swing Dance Party wants to see you in your finest zoot suit or flapper dress. Head back to the Eighties at Living the Good Life; DJ Bobby G is spinning the hits from yesteryear.

Chautauqua of Buffalo Bill Cody and Wild Bill Hickok at Dangberg Historic Park

Chautauqua performers Chuck Baldauskas and Doc Durden will present “Buffalo Bill & Wild Bill: Pals Together Again” at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park on Wednesday September 2, at 6:30 pm. The event is open to the public and free to attend.

UNR's Peavine Hall is newest residential facility for students on campus

Peavine Hall, predicted to be the University’s first LEED Gold certified building, opened for a public viewing during its grand-opening ceremony Thursday and will open to students for fall 2015 semester Aug. 20.

The Third and Curry Farmers Market vendors are tough, though, so your weekly dose of fresh produce will be waiting for you either way. The Carson City Historical Society hosts their second yard sale of the season at the historic Forman-Roberts House on North Carson Street, so have fun treasure hunting.

I hope you’re in the mood for music, Carson City. The annual Jazz and Beyond Festival begins today with an art show and concert on the lawn of the Bliss Mansion. Over the next two weeks you’ll have a plethora of melody to choose from at venues throughout town. Enjoy an outdoor concert at Third and Carson with Drinking with Clowns. Sassafras is thrilled to grab Groove Session for a show; they’re usually off touring. Mo’z Motley Blues will give you a reason to dance at Living the Good Life. BSA Troop 33 to Host the 2nd Annual “Send a Scout to Camp” Car and Truck Show Fundraiser

BSA Troop 33 is excited to announce it will be hosting its 2nd Annual “Send a Scout to Camp” Car and Truck Show Fundraiser on August 15, 2015 at Carson City’s Fuji Park.

The Show will be from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.; award ceremony starts at 3 p.m. Registration is $40 per entry. There is still time for pre-registration or you can register on the day of the event. Each participant will receive a T-shirt, one lunch meal ticket, and a dash plaque.

Carson City and Lake Tahoe area road report through August 9

Here is the Carson City area road report for the week of August 3-9, 2015: Beginning Tuesday, August 4, Minnesota Street will be closed to through traffic between King and Second Streets. The area will be used as a public space for special events.

The Nevada Department of Transportation will continue construction of drainage improvements on U.S. Highway 50 West between the two truck ramps, just west of Highway 395 to Sierra Highlands Drive. There will be lane closures Monday through Friday, but the roadway will remain open to traffic in both directions.

Lowell Fire in Nevada County, Calif. explodes as Kyburz Fire eases

11:15AM: Highway 50 is fully opened as more progress is made on the Kyburz Fire. Officials have changed the number of acres burned to 98 acres and the fire is now 80 percent contained. The size change due to more accurate mapping from the infrared flight.
The road is open but motorists need to watch out for firefighting equipment and crews still in the area.

UPDATE 10AM: CalFire has downgraded the number of acres burned in the Lowell Fire to 1,500 acres. It is 5 percent contained as of Sunday morning. Smoke from the fire has begun move into the Carson City area. Firefighters are also battling the Willow Fire in Madera County south of Bass Lake that also started Saturday. It has grown to more than 1,100 acres as of Sunday morning, closing roads and prompting mandatory evacuations as fire crews worked to protect threatened structures.

Can you believe it? It’s the last weekend of July and the kids will be headed back to school in no time. Don’t be dismayed though, plenty of summer fun can still be found. Sign the kids up for the Capital City Kids’ Triathlon at the Carson Aquatic Center. Head out to Mills Park for a few laps on the train or a picnic. Don’t miss out on making a bowl for the Empty Bowls project at the Farmers Market; or let the kids run off to the bounce house while you make a bowl yourself.

American Century Investments, NBC Sports extend Tahoe golf partnership through 2022

American Century Investments will continue as title sponsor of the nation’s premier celebrity golf tournament, the American Century Championship with a seven-year extension through 2022, officials announced Friday.

The championship will continue to take place at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course in Lake Tahoe as a result of the agreement, jointly announced by American Century Investments and NBC Sports, owner and operator of the championship.

If you need something cold to drink, head to 7-ELEVEN for a free small slushee from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. in celebration of Seven Eleven Day. The Farmers Market is always a good bet on Saturday mornings for sampling all the yummy stuff that grows nearby.
